Strange they've given Strafe red eyes in dino mode but kept Slug's blue when they're the other way round on screen.

Lockdown looks good. Knew the pic form the catalogue was just a dodgy angle.

Grimlock still has that uneven and awful chrome on him, too bad. The toned down deco looks nicer though, and I bet this is more accurate.

If Hound isn't just a Hasbro stand in (all other figures are Takara) then sorry for all the people who were hoping for a camo paintjob. Glad I already got the Hasbro version, I guess.

Lockdown looks great. Looks like his gun attachment resembles his face gun, so maybe there's a peghole somwhere to mimic that. :)

Yes, but while Takara is doing better than Hasbro, not by enough to really care. Takara have more paint, and generally in intelligent places- but with a couple excpetions they're still playing the same song Hasbro is and with most of these guys that song has nothing to do with the movie at all.

Not sure I saw green in the trailers. Maybe. It would explain why Cheetimus' movie accurate Grimlock custom has some green on it.

But I am definitely not seeing green on this toy. Is this the moment when I discover I'm color blind and somehow missed it for all these decades?

No so much green but a hint of green. Look at the dino head. It's not silver silver but very light greenish.

The green in the cgi is assumed to be moss growth or oxidation on the metal...if you look closely at some of the screenshots it's definitely there

Look at the torso of this pic

Lockdown is looking nice, cant wait to get my hands on that.

I wonder if he'll get a remold down the line? I wouldnt mind seeing him get some green paint and an Animated/RotF style head. I love the rotf figure, but the lack of two hands bugs me, so another attempt at the design would be neat.

The multicolour dinosaurs are obviously to make them more visually interesting, which to be fair they totally do.

The majority of the toyline are the Dinobots and I can totally understand why they didn't want to make hundreds upon hundreds of grey figures swamp shelves. Grey Deluxes, Grey Voyagers, Grey Leaders, Grey One-Steps, Grey Kre-O Sets, Grey Construct-bots, Grey Smash and Change, Grey Dinobot Sparkers... While now there's Orange characters, Purple characters, Blue characters, Red characters, Green characters... I don't necessarily LIKE it but I can definitely understand the justification.

Looking at the seams on the hood & based on the 1st pic we had of Lockdown, I'd say yes, Virginia - those "headlights" are real...

    ...kinda what I was thinking...

Look again - I see some nubs on the top of the hinged piece on the top of his upper arm, possible this isn't pushed down all the way (the armor should go further down his outer arm...) & that would expose the spikes better.

    But they are there.

Lockdown isn't perfect, but he's definitely a far cry from the "epic fail" we initially thought was coming from that Hasbro pic. I'll be glad to have him and hope he falls into my POL by the end of the month.

That's also vRey true. We'll said.
In the end, the two companies markets to different marketplace: hasbro to kids
Takara to more adult japanese fans

before i say anything, i should state that this character still NEEDS a larger mold.

but this is definitely nice, and you're right, there isn't a fake front end on his chest which is always nice.

if they can do this well with a deluxe version, i imagine a voyager or leader would look incredible.. but hasbro isn't going to give us one, so the point is moot.. it's such a shame too, this character would lend itself VERY well to a leader or voyager mold.. the gun head, all of the accessories he could have, it would've been perfect.

as for leader grimlock, i've painted mine.. and even though takara's version looks MUCH better, the mold itself still isn't worth the price to me. but it does look damn nice.

i REALLY hope we get a "non bright light" repaint of drift at some point.. considering his paint job will most likely look black throughout most of the movie, since it's only blue in sunlight.

Sigh. Damn near every other piece of Lockdown merch has the awesome helmet head. Except for the one I'd actually consider buying, which has the utterly unappealing to me humanoid head.

    That's just... frustrating.

Lockdown looks like an easy pass and I didn't think Hasbro's Leader Grimlock couldn't look any worse. Yikes.

My collecting habits will slow to a crawl...

There's a slight chance the Hasbro Lockdown is going to be all-black ; which will be my prefered version then.

Also : seeing more pics of the toy now.... It's actually fairly accurate to the CGi : the hood
panels on his chest are on the same spot, but they're not broken up and segmented as the CGi model has it.

About the photography difference. The Takara pic merely has the legs straightened out fully and the toes pointing down ; making
the legs seem long, whereas the Hasbro pic has the legs slightly bent. The shoulders in the Takara pic seem more angled up too.

Or... you know... Hasbro just doesn't give a flip. Ding Ding Ding!! Right answer.
