Next up in our galleries of upcoming Transformers Generations toys we have a look at the wisecracking Maximal rat - it's Generations Rattrap!

Rattrap was one of the original five Maximals introduced in the early episodes of Beast Wars. Masterfully voiced by Scott McNeil, Rattrap was a pessimistic Maximal known for sighing and saying "we're all gonna die" when faced with impossible odds - usually before making a major stand and playing a role in making sure everyone came back in one piece.

Rattrap's original toy was one of the first Beast Wars releases, a flipchanger Basic, but here, Rattrap has got the full Deluxe class upgrade, and what an upgrade! Much like Rhinox and Waspinator, Rattrap has been given a wonderfully show accurate design for his new toy, right down to the way his backpack folds up onto his back. There are a lot of cool features in the transformation such as how the rear beast mode legs transform into the robot mode legs. Compared to his wavemate, Tankor, Rattrap is a real puzzle of a toy, requiring some careful alignment of parts to get everything clipped in properly in beast mode. Rattrap's gun is based on a weapon the Maximals used in the show, and it can break down into two smaller pistols as well, so there are plenty of display options with it there. He's also got a flip-up panel in his arm which has a little bomb pop out, again modeled on a feature of the character in the show, another nice touch, and the rat's tail is made of soft rubber around a wire, so it is quite bendy and poseable. One thing that scares me a bit with my Rattrap are the shoulders - because they are tight, trying to move them sometimes makes it feel like the parts they are attached to are being tugged instead, which might risk a breakage down the line if you're unlucky.

Overall, Generations Rattrap is a fantastic loveletter to the Beast Wars series and I'd saw he is probably my favorite of the three Beast Wars homage toys released for Generations at this time, though it's a close run thing between him and Rhinox, no offense Waspinator. Check out our gallery and judge for yourself:

Have to get one of these to replace my original I sold.

The old toy's gun had a small peg for a handle or was it 5mm too?

I'm still wondering what else is even clear on him to make his weapons need to be clear maybe they are cloaked.

He looks super orange. Is he that orange in person?

Looks great with the other Maximals. Thanks for reminding me I want Henkei Dinobot.

It's VERY orange in person, yes.

    Looks good in-hand, though.

I'm liking this figure. This is easily my most anticipated figure of the year, even more so than Leader Class Jetfire or any of the Deluxe-Voyager Class AOE Dinobots (which, with the exception of Slash, all look like good figures, even if I only have Voyager Grimlock so far). It's show accurate in both modes, and the only fault I could think to find with it is the clear, unpainted weapons.

The old toy's gun has a very small handle - not sure how big but definitely not 5mm.

Not sure what the deal on the translucent weapons is but they look good in person.

I'd say it's about as orange as it looks in that group shot, it is a bright shade but not quite super orange.

I forgot to mention, the tail is also a soft rubber with a wire inside. Nicely poseable!

Knowing very little about Beast Wars, is the upcoming Takara Optimus Primal similar in size to the one in that pic?

If the shoulders are that tight why not open it up and sand the part a bit?

The fact that it can stand in Beast Mode is an immediate 'Must-Buy' for me.

He's the same exact figure, just with a more show accurate head in robot and beast mode.

Been excited for this one for a while. Hoping Takara will deliver more BW with the new Legends line - or Hasbro will have them here too!
