This set should've included the Rumble/Frenzy Data-disk bots that can be combined into a drum set for Soundwave, hell it could've been just a frame where they plug into it to become the bass drums. I mean, what kind of 80s band doesn't have a drummer? Oh well, I'll just have to hunt them down myself and figure something out.

That said, the price *is* a bit steep so i may hesitate a bit before I actually buy this *freaking awesome* set. Shame it doesn't come with an actual album though, they could've have just thrown in the soundtrack to the original movie or something, or at least one or two songs from it.

Hasbro releases something extremely vital/desirable to collectors as a convention exclusive (ala correctly colored Bruticus): fandom complains.

Hasbro releases something fun, but not core to most people's collections: fandom complains.

WTF do you want? There's no pleasing you.

Good points; thank you for your posts! :thumb  But I still think they're overpriced. (Granted, they're "typical" of Botcon/SDCC exclusives, don't get me wrong). I think $120-150 is more reasonable (as someone else mentioned).

Is this "Knights of Cybertron" theme supposed to click with the AoE knight theme? Cause it seems kind of random... and maybe when/if I see AoE it will make more sense...

I'd like to see a poll about whether or not people will BUY THIS. I hate all the complainers who buy anyway - why the heck complain if you're still buying? Cause we all need to vent about something stupid when work is going bad? :lol

I think there are people going to SDCC (or excited to go) who are extremely disappointed the exclusive isn't as epic as last year's METRO. (Although, IMO, last year's Metro was kind of lame, considering how easy Vanilla Metro was to find, or how easy it was to get the Asian version with the same accessories).

There's nothing wrong with being passionately against this set, even when it seems like it's getting out of hand. Or maybe I've read different comments and didn't see any of the ugly insults and offensive words? :lol

    You make a great point.

Although you kind of overlook some obvious flaws: i.e. Bruticus was a mess of a combiner, despite the potential.

As much as I'd like to believe that the fandom is impossible to please, I think we all share some common core values and tastes. Why else would Takara release MP Optimus almost every year :) horse:) ?

Instead of complaining, however, you bring up a great point about what people SHOULD do: they should post what they WANTED TO SEE. Something more constructive than, "this is teh stupid and Hasbro is teh drunk! CLEVER DANCE!" It's gotta be more than a little hard to knock that baseball out of the park EVERY TIME! :lol

I know there are many who didn't like Bruticus, but the fact remains he sold out at the show and when they put up stock on HTS he sold out almost immediately. That mold has been used 5 times (originals release, SDCC, G2, Premium and Ruination), that's a lot of reuses for a mold that supposedly no one likes.

I would love to see a thread of what people want from a SDCC exclusive, and I'm sure every suggestion that's made will have at least a few people who hate the idea, proving there is no sure thing when it comes to a convention exclusive. Even something like a Masterpiece will have people angry that it's an exclusive and not a regular release.

It's not Knights of Cybertron, it's Knights of Unicron. Ya know, Unicron, who is essentially the Transformers "Devil" or "Satan"...and these guys are a band who claim to be "Knights In Satan's Service"....has nothing to do with AoE and everything to do with another awesome glam band reference.

There was nothing really "Epic" about last years exclusive, other then the fact it was the Metroplex mold. Which as you said yourself could be gotten in almost similar condition from other sources. Imo, that's a much bigger waste of a convention exclusive. Con Exclusives should be fun, interesting, different or obscure pieces to add to a collection that wouldn't normally sell at retail, not just some slightly improved paint scheme on a mass retail figure.

Oh no, this fandom is very much "impossible" to please. The very size of it alone guarantees that. There's so much variety within the past 30 years of Transformers, that it brought in large amounts of people who are all looking for something different, so no one set or item will ever please everyone.

Sure there is, you've just listed two extreme examples that were very unpopular due to their stupidity. As if those were the only choices.

It is a cool set but would have been better it they were tied into Swerve's or Blurr's bar concept.

Kinda kooky, but it's cute. What gets me is the toys. Megatron's works, but the others look too much like troll hair, especially Optimus.

Not opposed to the idea... but the execution could have been better. The colors and patterns chosen don't quiiiiite sell the "80's hair band" idea (No leopard print? Grey legs on Prime? 90's-style grafitti on Megs' alt mode? C'mon!). Instead of the "troll hair" as someone mentioned, the hair would have worked better if it was glued into a little molded rubber headband, to replicate this look. That would also have made them removable... they could have just been little sheaths that you slip over the figures' heads, that the hair flowed out of (wouldn't have to look so much like "troll hair" then, either).

Also, not a great choice of molds. That Megatron and Soundwave are okay, and Prime is so-so I guess, but doesn't everyone pretty much despise FOC Jazz? Even though the mold has seen a lot of use, I think it would have been better to use the Classics Jazz mold instead. While I support the use of the Animated instrument-bots, it seems like a missed opportunity not making the bird Buzzsaw instead of Laserbeak. Sure, Laserbeak is the better-known character, but there's never been an Animated Buzzsaw released, he fits nicely with the metal context, and honestly at that point the identity of the birdbot isn't going to sway people one way or the other on this set... might as well make it a character that fills a gap. I'd say go one further and make Ratbat into Wingthing but, well, that might be a little too obscure.

Anyhow, I'm on the fence on this. If it were $100 I'd bite, no question. At almost double that, with molds I'm mostly lukewarm on, it's a tougher call (though I do love more Animated figures being released, even if they're just glorified accessories).

I agree, 10,000 is way too many. I just meant that those were the kinds of numbers we'd need to see before the cost-per-figure margin (vs. retail) would start to come down from BotCon-like multipliers (so I've been given to understand).

Me, too. I don't think I've ever known SDCC-exclusive numbers, but if someone can start turning those up, I'd happily add a page to the data pages.

That's an amazing idea! A band needs a drummer (with drums).

That's hilarious! I'd love that hanging around my computer here at the house. You'd almost have to do the stage setup display to make it work though but these are great! I hope they come with those little speaker standups

I know this is a really love it or a really hate it thing for this set. I can see why (almost). You have to realise that yes, this is Transformers 30th Ann. AND in the same respect so is 80's Glam/hair Metal! Both of these, for me, helped me through some tough times as a youngster, and still does today. (of course both TF'S and Metal are both evolved for the better). I grew up with a transformer in my hands and Heavy Metal wailin' in my ears! BOTH ARE METAL AS HELL!! I still rock out with my toys out! To me a GEN X'ER, I cant think of a better 30 year tribute to my youth!

I had already been using my daughters toy parts to make my current TF'S rock away with drum sticks and guitars from the Bratts Doll line and they are all posed out in Metal attire and equipment. Hasbro just made my fantasy a reality!! I just pre-ordered 2 sets, 1 to collect and one to display with my Metal collection.

I am just greatful they didn't try a One Direction theme...oh dear god.. I hope they don't get any ideas!

Now if they would just do a Death/Black metal version with all Decepticons and decked out in the Black and White face paint......I would go Nuts and buy them all!

I guess its really a matter of tastes (or whether your gen x or gen y) when it comes to this Crazy set!

I love my Music! I love my Transformers! ..and I love milk and cookies too! I guess it shows I am Gen X to the core.

As far as collector value goes...only time will tell...but it is priceless to me!!

Now will someone do up a Trypticon that transforms into a cool Stage!!! That would be the 'Rainbow in the Dark'
