This is purely fan theory but I think lock downs ship plays a bigger part in this new series. Following from the "who sent you here", and the ship looks like an upturned hand at times..

Unicron? That you bro? ( or piece of)

Kind of looks like a giant jellyfish or crab.
The ship does suck things up...

I really don't think they would do something as stupid as make Unicron's hand a spaceship.

Any ship with tractor beam capacity can suck things up.

"Oh, look at this motherf... mean robots suck!"

But I doubt that is a robot, or even part of a robot. No, it's just a very cool spaceship.

This theory has been knocking round for a while. I think it would be brilliant myself.

Yeah I called it being a piece of Unicron with my friends a while ago. Unicron would be some sort of god, just like in the series, only bays vision would make him alot more advanced/large and he could certainly have the capacity to send pieces of himself around the universe in search of primes and advanced races to annihilate

Probably Unicron or the Quints behind the mayhem in this three part series.

Lockdown is Silversurfer, and the ship is the surf board?

If Unicron is involved, i dont think he would directly use a bountyhunter. But a Herald of Unicron could

I think it's just a cool ship. I also have speculated that the reason it's being said it is important is because the Autobots end up with it. After all, they really could use another ship. Time will tell.

I certainly hope not, I don't want Unicron, I've seen enough of him. Unless Bay does him properly, I don't want him in the movies.

It's definitly alive. The movie app even called it a Cybertronian entity. And it even talks to you in the app.

I'm with you, but Bay has hinted this ship has some backstory that won't be revealed until a later movie. So who knows.

Fuck. Now I remember. This is what Tony was talking about when he said something about Jellyfish in the movie.

That would be so f*cking terrible.

Unicron doesn't hire people. He makes Faustian deals, but why would space god robo-devil pay for services in currency? And why would a paycheck/trophy oriented bounty hunter work for anything else? He's not out for power, or even upgrades he doesn't earn.

It would be a huge misstep requiring either one or both of them to act totally out of character and established power scale.

The Quintessons would make sense... But they've never been done well (except for in James Roberts' fan novel, Eugenesis) and I don't see movies being the first place to change that.

Well it's maybe possible if it turns out Lockdown does actually take parts of his bounties and is consantly 'upgrading' himself, the same could be said of his ship and it's like a collective of various parts. Like a Portugese man o'war ... but in this case a Cybertronian Ship...o'war ... thing, you know what I mean lol

And I think there's gonna be a few surprises in terms of the other bad guys as well as Lockdown's reason for being there.

    well.. that's incorrect.

i believe bay, or someone involved with the movie, has said that the ship is important and that it holds secrets in it that will be fleshed out in the next movie(s).

when we see that ship that's sucking shit up.. that definitely reminds me of unicron.. whether he's involved or not, i'd be inclined to believe that that is at least a nod towards unicron. we've seen devastator suck stuff up before, but it definitely wasn't unicron-esque.

if unicron is in this next trilogy.. i wonder how they'll portray him.. i wonder if they'll go with G1, having him be the size of a planet.. or if they'll just make him a large robot. i'd hope they'd use the G1 idea.. i think it'd be quite cool to see the autobots end up inside of unicron.

whoever the ship is, or whoever sent it.. i hope it's something established from the transformers universe rather than something completely new. while i like all of the new stuff that these movies have provided, i think this mystery character is just too important for them not to draw from the past.

A twist it would be, if Lockdown is not after Prime, but Drift(comic).
But then what Con wants him back? :)
