Big fan of the DC direct to dvd animated films, and I'm not even a DC comic reader. I've bought a couple and rented most. Needless to say I would buy Transformers done in that fashion day 1.

I've said it before and I'll say it now, DC is obviously having success with these movies, why aren't more companies following suit? Marvel's offerings aren't as good or frequent and other toy, video game, etc. aren't really attempting it. It would seem there is room in the market for other media licenses to make an attempt.

I don't know what kids want to watch kiddie shows, most kids always want things more mature. After 4 or 5 what kid want to watch rescue bots when there is Prime?

 

Lego, GI Joe have done direct to DVD movies. I'm hesitant to buy them because toy companies didn't think their movie was good enough to sell in theaters. With DC movies, I know they're based on my favorite stories so I'm not worried about buying a bad movie.

 

You make a great point. There is obviously a market for films like this, whether they be child or adult. Too bad we have to settle for only the live action movies when we could be getting so much more.  

 

I think DC is able to do non-main-demographic animated movies because it has a larger fanbase to use. I'm not sure there are enough adult TF fans to make a direct-to-DVD non-kid-oriented release profitable.

 

I agree. Put animated movies in cartoon continuity such as Predacons Rising in theaters

 

But it would make no sense to release a movie that is the finale for a 3 year old cartoon, to a wider audience, who most likely would have no idea who these characters are and what they are doing.

 

Except that it wasn't really a "movie", it was three episodes combined. Kinda like "The Batman-Superman movie"/Worlds Finest from Superman: The Animated Series. Not that combined episodes have never aired in the theater as a movie. The first five episodes of She-Ra aired in the theater.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever was going to air in the theater, but the deal fell through. That movie was the conclusion to that series.

 

That would probably be the exception, considering how stand alone that is.

I'm pretty sure the first three episodes of Clone Wars were released to theaters as well and was considered a movie.

(Never personally seen it split up an aired on TV since but yes, it was a movie/film release in theaters/cinemas)

 

They should do something like the Day of The Doctor, 30 years of a bunch of metal dudes from another planet that turn into cars that fight each other for millions of years but never kill each other deserves a film like that.
(Except there's no 30 year continous canon to try and add a significant point in the character's lives and reveal that Optimus was really a famous british actor with a beard and was much darker that Prime tries to hide. But you could have time travel I fixed my own problem with Wibbly Wobbly timey wimey stuff. YAY!
G1 Prime wondering what Movie Prime's become while Prime Prime pretending he isn't murderous once in a while himself Prime Prime and G1 Prime making fun of movie Prime then Movie Prime making fun of the fact that Prime Prime has been snogging shapeshifting aliens and G1 Prime joining in ending with all the Primes from every moment of every day, at the end with a NO SIR ALL 13! moment revealing the new Optimus Prime from, I dunno a new series of PG 13 animated films. Ending with G1 Prime rambling about Bee asking if he has dreams and now I know where I've been going, where I've always been going...

Yeah, Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie was originally intended to be episodes. However, from what I've read on the internet, George Lucas decided to turn the first few episodes (I think it might have maybe been as many as five episodes) into a movie. The actual final product was a movie though. It was never actually broken down as episodes.

I take nothing back, but I'm so sorry for this last night, sometimes all those "Whats Up"s and Weird AL parodies, topped of with how ridiculous the main character can be in the show I was referring to get to your brain, it all came out very... well, that.
Basically, 30th anniversary possibly involving wibbly wobbly timey wimeyness to have a few Primes meet, spanning multiple continuities, self references and an epic finale with a hint of the next show and the return of a voice actor who hasn't been involved with TFs for a while at the last minute to really blow fans heads off.
Pants, not heads, dear Primus it's happening again!!!

I'd love cartoons based on some of the better IDW series.

Also I'd love a new NEO g1... G1 was the best overall universe, and a series retelling the major events in g1 in a new updated and more concise and mature tone would be awesome.

Of course the Justice League Cartoon and the DCAU have this lane on lock. I can always still dream that Bruce Timm was hired to direct a TFAU. I think the problem with most Transformers media is the lack of cohesiveness. Justice League created an expanded universe where anything or anyone could appear. Transformers needs some of the world building, but I fear that Hasbro Media is going to focus on the bombastic and not talking whats good about the franchise, honoring it, and then building on top of that.
