What is your favorite Metallica song? Mine is definitely, without a doubt "Disposable Heroes" from MOP (link). THAT song is a piece of pure thrashing genius and is technically superb. Great from start to finish and their best song. I am definitely in the camp of those who don't really care for anything from "the Black Album" forward. They were never as good from then on. Really a completely different band after 1991. I miss old Metallica so much. At least they gave us 4 great metal albums.
The S&M versions of "Enter Sandman" and "Fuel". The only Metallica albums I liked are "And Justice for All..." through "S&M".
No mention of "One" huh? Well I'll be the first then. It was because of the music video that I was informed about the movie called "Johnny got his gun." If you haven't seen it, DO SO NOW! If the thought of War never disgusted you before, it will after seeing this movie (at least it did for me). My Top 3 (no order) would be: One Fade to Black Master of Puppets I stopped caring about Metallica once "Load" was released. Nothing from that point forward was nearly as good as their worst 80's song.
Ugh, can't pick just One King Nothing Hero of the Day Fade to Black Nothing Else Matters The Unforgiven
One is the song that introduced me to Metallica, and is my favorite because of that. For something a little different... James Hetfield "In My Life" The Acoustic-4-A-Cure Live "San Francisco" Fillmore - YouTube
Crap... can't just pick one. The Unnamed Feeling The God that Failed Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) Bleeding Me Orion Ride The Lightning
For whom the bell tolls is their best fucking song ever ! fantastic rock tune , marching song , best movie opening song ever
Agreed. Too many for me to pick only One. Hell I'm still discovering some of their lesser known stuff. Though some of the ones I love most are One Ain't My Bitch Four Horsemen Seek & Destroy Disposable Heroes Die Die My Darling
Agreed. This is my absolute favorite Metallica song. I first heard it during the opening credits of Zombieland, and then when Triple H used the song during his entrance to his first match with Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII. THAT was badass!
Fight Fire With Fire And you've got to remember just how unbelievably heavy this was when it came out in 1984; it truly was the sound of nuclear annihilation. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to hear this upon first setting the needle down upon initial release in 1984. As the delicate intro yields to the absolutely crushing weight of the runaway hypersonic freight train from hell that is the opening riff, accompanied by Cliff's snarling, hungry bass, you just know all bets are off. While there was metal this fast before, and of course Sabbath had given us some of the heaviest music of all time going all the way back to their eponymous song in 1970, nothing to this point had combined this kind of breakneck riffing with the sort of dark, suffocating heaviness the track exudes. The immense production job had a lot to do with this, of course. To this day Metallica have never achieved a sound as perfect (and as perfectly metal) as on Ride the Lightning. In fact, I count it as one of the best production jobs in metal history, period. I consider Ride the Lightning the high point of Metallica's career, a truly amazing record... and the opening track is one of the most powerful & lasting statements the genre has seen.
