Yay, Brains is back! That means he (and probably Wheelie) survived DotM!

It's been mentioned quite a bit that this was most likely not a full cast list.

The John Goodman casting had me going "...why has no one cast him to play a Transformer before now?!?" it just fits and I never even considered it!

Mark Ryan as Lockdown? That's brilliant! I don't think he's ever been a baddy before.

I'm fairly sure they were cast beforehand. We're just now learning about it.

Not exactly, i am pretty sure they were already cast for months, they're just annoucing them right now, just because they were announced yesterday doesnt they were just cast. example the entire ROTF voice cast was announced till June 20, 2009, 4 days before the film release and its pretty obvious the voice work was already done by then.

an non-tf example, in the next Jurassic Park movie we already have a director, who was announced in 2013, but said director was already hired in 2012. but was not announced till 2013

This casting news, I'm mostly impressed with it.

John Goodman as Hound is pretty much what we call perfect casting, I'm hoping his performance it similar to his Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski.

Ken Watanabe as Drift, a bit sterotypical casting but a solid one nonetheless.

John DiMaggio as Crosshairs, I was imagining a younger voice for Crosshairs like Johnny Yong Bosch or Crispin Freeman, but DiMaggio can make this work, though I was hoping he'd reprise Leadfoot....which could still be possible since Leadfoot was seen on set last I recall.

Frank Welker as Galvatron. I'm ok with this, but only if he's using his Prime Megatron voice and not his G1 (sounds like I'm dying) voice as demonstrate in some of the Movie Games, it's a voice that didn't age well.

Mark Ryan as Lockdown, this is the only casting I'm not at all excited about. Was Lance Henriksen really unavailable? Even then there a lot of other VA's with raspy gritty voices that could have worked like Steve Blum (because Steve Blum), David Lodge (doing his Kenpachi Zaraki from Bleach), Corey Feldman (using his Slash voice from TMNT), um uh....David Hayter or Keither Sutherland (well I only suggest this because Akio Otsuka the seiyu that voices Solid Snake also was the Japanese dub voice of Lockdown in TFA.) Perhaps he'll play Lockdown something similar to Jason Statham?

Oh and Robert Foxworth and Reno Wilson are back reprising Ratchet and Brains. Hopefully Wheelie is back too, with Tom Kenny as the voice.

I wonder how long it will be until they reveal Grimlock's voice, assuming he actually talks at all?

I wonder how much presence Ratchet has in this film for the voice actor to be announced.

I'm pretty sure there a lot of other reasons, really.

I don't think this would even make the list, honestly.

Calm down man. They probably recorded their lines before ILM started the animation.

And besides, this is nothing new. The first movie's voice cast was released nearly a week before its premiere. The second's was scattered and even then, it wasn't until the film was released that everyone was revealed (Rampage, Demolisher and the Primes especially). The third was pretty much the same thing as the second. So I wasn't that surprised it took this long in the grand scheme of things.

The casting itself seems to be a mixed bag though. While I definitely can't wait to hear how Goodman sounds as Hound. I'm kinda skeptical with the casting of Lockdown and Drift. Plus the fact that 'Bee is still mute, which probably means he's never going to get a voice (and no, those sound clips don't count), has also got me worried. The Dinobots can go either way at this point.

Shame about no Lance Henriksen. John Goodman as Hound, good call. Ken Watanabe as Drift? A bit typecast-y but he's a good actor, so sure, why not? Frank Welker as Galvatron; it'd be interesting to see what he does with the role (
I'm hoping Galvatron proves to be a better nemesis for the Bots than just human controlled cannon fodder
    ).

Yeah. I don't really see how anyone can seriously expect that this announcement somehow coinsides with their actual casting, rather than just a press release. That's like saying they don't start work on a movie until the trailer is released.

Voice acting is usually one of the later aspects of a film like this to be finalised. They can start whenever they want, but when you realise the CGI can't be implemented until the scenes are shot, and the actual actors are not needed for the filming, and the voices are only recorded once the CGI is far enough to work with, you don't know if it's a sure thing changes won't be made. Much like how you don't CGI a scene unless you know it won't be cut before the film is finished, you don't record lines for that CGI until you know there's actually going to be a scene there.

It's all just stages of movie-making. Every single production does it. It's essentially the "measure twice, cut once" rule of film making so they don't end up wasting time.

I don't hate Michael Bay. I don't like Armageddon, I never watched Bad Boys, and I've never been interested in his take on Pearl Harbor, but I don't hate Michael Bay.
