I went with my kids. It was a very busy day at my favorite local comic-and-HVAC shop. Yes, I buy my comics from plumbers. Who do not wear ties. I was happy to see so many people there. Locally, anyway, comics seem to have rebounded.

My 6yo daughter picked up Teen Titans, put it down, picked up the one with the pony on its cover, flipped through it, declared it to be 'too scary', and kept Teen Titans. My 8yo son requested 'newspaper comics', evoking an   from the clerk.   The clerk handed him Prince Valiant, but he turned it down, saying "no, I like newspaper comics except for Prince Valiant", and got the Kaboom one that had a Garfield comic of some type.

I picked up the brilliantly silly TF/Joe thing. It was a work of mad genius. Coloring the paper faux-yellowed was a nice touch. One thing that doesn't quite work is the lettering. It's a little too neat and obviously machine-lettered, and can't go as creatively wonky or break into random boldface with the ease of vintage hand-lettering.

 

I went to three local comic shops (along with AltercronsGirl) and I picked up (forgive the horrible iPod pic)

Speaking of the Walking Dead, I got to meet Meyrick Murphey who was in 3 episodes of season 4 (and my first exposure to the Governor who ended up being my favorite character). For such a meek little girl on the show, she was sooooooo bubbly and full of energy in the shop. Totally threw me and my fiance for a loop.

 

I guess I am fortunate to have a great LCS by me. The Joker's Child had no limits, and even prepared "packages" for kids and collectors. Meaning, in one batch I got my TF/Joe, DC, Marvel, Tick, and a few other goodies while my kids came home with Teen Titans, Hello Kitty and a bunch more. You wanted something not included in a package? Ask, and they give it to you.

No one is forced to buy. You come in, have a good time. From the looks of the majority of postings here, perhaps other comic shops should follow their lead.

 

I can't remember the limitations my LCS's had, but considering I am very rarely interested in more than 3 or 4 things that come out each year it's never been an issue for me.

 

At all the stores closest to mine they had a limit of 2 or 3 depending on where you went (unless you went to the other one in town who was not participating at all). One store tied how many books you could get to how many books were on your pull list...which seems wrong IMHO. We had a limit of 10 + 3 more for every child under 12, and a free Iron Man mask for every kid. Seemed to work well and everyone was more than happy.
