I'm still alive. Just didn't get the chance to write my usual opinions. Well, here you go:

The Curse of The Black Spot: A pirate story. Feels like ever since the series had one.

    --

The Doctor's Wife: Junk TARDIS at last! So this is how it went.

Now... if there's one thing this series is really good at is teasing us with false promises! So the "Wife" in question wasn't River, but the "Sexy" TARDIS? Well, more fanfic materials. But I'm not gonna say this is too farfetched. They did say the TARDIS was sentient, right? So a scenario like this is not unlikely to happen.

    --

The Rebel Flesh + The Almost People: First half was boring if I may say, but when the cloned Doctor showed up, it got better. I did not notice the twist at the end (The Doctor one). But Amy's twist? That came out of the left field!

    --

A Good Man Goes to War: THANK GOD THEY DIDN'T GO THAT ROUTE! Oh, I was talking about the daughter... she's not the Doctor's seed or anything.

But this episode felt rushed. It should've been a 2-parter instead of one. Even the ending felt rushed. So the baby disappears and the Doctor just goes to his merry way like nothing big matters? I liked the collaboration between the Doctor and other aliens we see, but they didn't add too much to the plot.

Concerning the "epic twist" of the week, not sure if I can take it or not. Something inside me tells me there's something wrong about it...

    --

Let's Kill Hitler: So they won't bother looking for the baby anymore? Instead they bring this new girl and expect us to.......... oh you've got to be kidding me!!

Now I get why DrGrim doesn't like River...!

    --

Night Terrors: I like it. It's like something out of The Shining yet still light hearted.

    --

The Girl Who Waited: This got to be one of the saddest new Who episodes I've seen so far. Amy and Rory grew up to be my favorite new companions and I like how their marriage status helps with their relationship and how they feel to each other. Especially with what they went with together and their long waiting periods.

    --

The God Complex: Not sure what to say about it. It was great, but I can't describe what's great about it.

But this the last of Amy and Rory. I'm sure going to miss their company.

    --

Closing Time: Craig is back again! Didn't expect him to return and his family.

This episode was comedic in tone which I don't mind. Needs more comedy to balance the seriousness of previous episodes. That until the Cybermen attempt to reformat Craig. All of a sudden it turned grim till they won with the power of love! Now whither you take it seriously or not is up to you, but I'll take it since we did see in Doomsday and The Other Doctor a Cyberman with its original emotions taking over.

Cybermats are back and I dig their new designs. "Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All" is priceless!

    --

The Wedding of River Song: Seriously... you're doing this now?

For a season's finale, I think this was even more rushed than A Good Man Goes to War. And good lord can they push the symbolism even further than ever...? The Doctor looks and dressed like Jesus and he's escorted to a Roman office! Why don't you just do the crucifixion while you're at it?!!

The death news of Brigadier Stewart feels like it came out of nowhere. Was there a reason to add it in? Other than to tell the Doctor he can't escape his fate? Amy and Rory are back so they're not out yet.

Did I mention this episode was rushed? Because I couldn't follow all the wedding thing or what it served other than giving another connection between our characters.

    =============

Not sure what to say about this arc. From the Doctor's death and how to escape it to Amy and her baby to River Song, it felt unfocused and some rushed resolutions here and there. Not as good as the previous season.

Moving on to the next season.

Death is the Only Answer: That green lequid at the end will play part in the future, right?

    --

Night and The Doctor: Not bad. Just little extras between episodes.

    --

The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe: Another tease! So instead of the spaceship plot we get a Narnia-esque story which is better in my opinion.

It was enjoyable with a heartwarming ending and nothing too serious happened. But I think A Christmas Carol is still the better Christmas special.

    --

Good As Gold: Can you make the Weeping Angels more of a joke than this?

    --

Pond Life: If it wasn't for the last part between Amy and Rory, I'd say skip this one unless you also enjoy some Ood doing his business. (Seriously they sure love the Oods if they keep adding them every once and a while)

    --

Asylum of the Daleks: First episode of the last season, and... no...

NO NO NO NO NOOOOO!!!! What have you done?!! WHAT - HAVE - YOU - DONE?!!

    --

Dinosaurs On A Spaceship: So this is the famous dinosaur episode? Though the focus wasn't entirely on them and their recycled Walking with Dinosaurs effects.

The issue between Amy & Rory is revealed here, though they solved it quickly. We got to see Rory's father Brian and I like him. Those two robots hilarious. Nefertiti and Riddell were random additions, but they were okay.

    --

A Town Called Mercy: A Western this time. Not sure about the Doctor's stand though. He points out what his mercy had done in the past and wanted to end it by shooting Jex, but glad he didn't and gave him and the Gunslinger a second chance.

    --

The Power of Three: A year on earth with the Ponds doing nothing but staring at cubes. Yep, I'm sure that'll excite the Doctor!

We got The Brigadier's daughter Kate, so that's a nice follow up after his death report.

    --

The Angels Take Manhattan: This was cruel! Sure Amy and Rory had a long run with the Doctor, but to end it like this? It's too much to take! Especially after what Brian said in the previous episode. This was so sad!

Yeah, it's a much better picture. It's still 60s Doctor Who with all the variable image quality that entails, but it's a big improvement on the ITunes version.

That was an acknowledgement of the passing of Nicholas Courtney, which had happened earlier that year.

Will they acknowledge Sarah Jane's death in the series or keep her alive in a corner somewhere?

    --

    Whoops, forgot that fact.

    RE: The Doctor's Wife
I liked the part at the end where House says "Fear me, I've killed hundreds of Time Lords"..."Fear me, I've killed them all" = badassery there.

    RE: Asylum of the Daleks
I loved the beginning when they were all surrounded by the Daleks. I didn't expect them to ask for his help.

    RE: The Power of Three
I was laughing a lot watching the Doctor deal with everyday life and bordom.

    RE: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
I thought it was a fun ep. So, do you like Donna's dad or Rory's dad more?

    RE: The Angels Take Manhattan
    Yeah, that one really hurts.

Speaking of Brian. Here's something from a year ago and narrated by Rory.

That was kind of sweet - it actually help a bit with how pissed off I was about the whole Amy Rory situation a bit.

So River's got a Brother then (kind of)... shame they can't do anything with that... well they could but it's new-Who so they won't. Cracks in time are not the only cracks in the show there's ones in the whole plot structure/Universe of the programme too.

Thankfully Doctor Who isn't my Primary Fandom so I can choose not to get to peeved about it when the show so often promises much and delivers little.

    ----------

Oh and I'd like to hit someone with the *ocksucking paving slab.

    ---------

To wander off topic for a mo... The tardis pulling a planet reminded me of ST:TNG when Q was made Human and tells Gordie to change the Universal constant (or something like that) and Geordie mouths off at him then goes hang on a minute and realises he can throw a field around the big rock they need to shift and make it less massive using a subspace bubble or such like.. I guess the Doc did the same - throw some tardis magic around a planet so you can move it - the more usual way to shift planets in Sci Fi is a worm hole or shrinking/digitising it.

I'm assuming the latter. Personally, I like to think that Sarah Jane is still running around out there with K9 and her adopted kids.

As mentioned, the actor playing him had passed away. Additionally, while he got to play the Brig one last time in Sarah Jane Adventures, he didn't return to Who, and they were planning on bringing him in. Then he passed away and they wanted to work that in since they never got to have that "final" adventure with the Brig they were planning.

I was going to post that if you didn't, it's a beautiful bookend to the story.

They actually had a TV special and tribute that season to Elizabeth Sladen. I think they would like to pretend that Sarah Jane is now having unseen adventures.

    Well guys............. I did it....

I made another achievement in life and I never thought I'd do it.

Today, I finished all of Dr. Who series from beginning to end. From William Hartnell to Matt Smith. It took me five months to do so. It was a long, long trip, but I reached the current end. So, I guess this'll be the last long post I make for now... ready?

    ======

PS: It was as painful as it sounded like. Makes me wonder of all parents and families who lost their beloved members and how they felt like. Brian got his memo, but what about the others who had no idea where their children disappeared to?

    --

The Great Detective: It's those guys again. Vastra, Jenny and Strax are so good together they just need their own spin-off show.

And hey, the Doctor is alone again! I thought River was going to accompany him after the ending of the previous episode!

    --

Songtaran Carols: Strax killed me with the Rudolf part. They sure nailed his character here! :lolol

    --

The Snowmen: The Great Intelligence is finally back again! I thought he was going to have a much bigger role in the series from what I heard about him but finally... FINALLY they decide to bring him back and voiced by Ian McKellen none the less!

Also, Clara Oswald how come I didn't catch that earlier on?! Sometimes I hate being thick-headed...! :banghead:

And dat TARDIS new desktop! Yay, it's back to the classic look!

    --

The Battle of Demon's Run: Two Days Later: I think this one was better be before the Christmas special prequels to remove confusion about Strax's survival.

    --

The Bells Of Saint John: New opening! nice. A new companion and a new story arc focused about her (To comment about this later)

    --

The Rings Of Akhaten: This episode felt very Star Wars-y. The settings and the alien costumes, they all screamed Star Wars to me. The ending scene with Matt Smith hamming it down was so bad@$$ of him!

    --

Cold War: Ice Warriors are back, and thank God they didn't butcher their design like the Silurions. Liked David Warner's inclusion here.

    --

Hide: You know, I feel liking these episodes where no clear villain in it and the supposed monster is just misunderstood. I find it better when they make them nonhuman to add more to the "do not judge by the cover" motif.

    --

Journey To The Center Of The TARDIS: I'm telling ya, this was one suspenseful episode. Not sure what to think about the salvage crew. For one I'd say they deserved what they got for their meddling and ignoring the Doctor's warning, but at the same time think they didn't deserve all that and they were just doing their job. Or you know what, I think they did deserve something for lying and using Tricky the way they did.

    --

The Crimson Horror: You know, the fact that they spent a good amount of this episode on the ugly trio and not introduce the Doctor till later solidifies the need to give those guys their own show!

Those kids at the end... once they figured out what's going on I knew what they going for...

    --

Nightmare In Silver: So they finally did it, kids as companions. Well, they were boring and didn't do much here.

Cybermen are now crazy fast, not so talkative as they used to be and can now control the Doctor! And man did Matt Smith give another splendid performance switching back and forward between the Doctor and Mr. Clever!

    --

The Name of the Doctor: Final episode of the season. This was a bit shocking! Visiting the Doctor's grave? That's an unusual destination...!

The continuities here... all the Doctors and these past events when the "supposed" Great Intelligence was trying to kill the Doctor and Clara tries to help him. And finally, we meet the unnumbered Doctor... this should be interesting!

    --

he Night of the Doctor + The Last Day: The prelude to the 50th anniversary special. It starts like a normal Doctor adventure, but turned so much bleaker than the norm! It was nice to see Paul McGann again (and confirming the canonical of the Big Finish Adventures), but I didn't want it to be like this!

    --

The Day of the Doctor: So finally we find out what how the war ended. But was it the way I hoped for? Not really. For starters, I was hoping it'll be a War Doctor story only. Not a multi-Doctor episode which is another problem I had with it:

This special was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series, right? So why the lack of any mention of the Classic series events? Other than the intro and the Foreman junkyard scene and the Doctors coming for aid, it was focused on the new series and I didn't like it that much. But since it was focused on the war I think they had to focus on the Doctors who came afterward.

Let me comment on the War Doctor first. I thought he was going to be this rough, evil sort of guy, but he ended up as wacky as any of his other selves and that made me like him better. He may have dropped the Doctor name, but he was still the Doctor inside of him. I also loved the interactions between Tenth and Eleventh and how they kept making fun of each other (Screwdriver scene was the funniest).

Reading Billie Piper's name in the opening credits made me cringe as you know how much I dislike Rose, but surprisingly, I liked her as Moment's body. Too bad Rose wasn't as fun as her.

    As for the end result...
While Gallifrey is saved, but to be stuck frozen inside a cube? Not sure if I'd like it... but it's still considered alive, right?

Zygons were brought back and I really forgot about them. Nice to bring another classic one back.

And the ending scene. When the old man was talking I thought that was Peter Capaldi and I was thinking "what, they're spoiling him already?" but to my surprise it was
    Tom Baker
instead! I kept smiling in all the scene's duration. Again, it's like meeting an old friend after a long absence and it really warmed my heart.

So as a whole... I liked the special, I stand with my complain of focusing on all the Doctors instead of the new ones, but it was satisfying.

    --

The Time Of The Doctor: This is it guys, the final Dr. Who special. And... it felt underwhelming after seeing The Day of the Doctor. I think that one was the more appropriate finale than this one as it connected between the old and the new and they even teased Capaldi in it!

First, I'm glad the Daleks got their memory back because that was a terrible decision if you ask me. Wooden Cyberman? How does that work? Weeping Angels and the Silence were together in this, but no contest between them. BOOO!

The Special's Deus Ex Machina was
the regeneration energy. I thought it was too much bombastic and too much silly. The Doctor didn't win using an intelligent scheme, he was aided by the Time Lords (and not sure if they helped him because they liked him or because he's the only one who can free them).
No problem with the ending scene. It was both happy and sad, but diffidently more happy than what the Ninth and Tenth had.

    ==========

So that was it guys... that was my one long trip. I really enjoyed Matt Smith's run, even more so than Eccleston and Tennant. It was more fun and more campy than them and as I mentioned before the closest in spirit to the Classic series.

Sadly, this wasn't without a major problem. Here the problem were companion-focused arcs. I don't mind to focus on the companions but I think here the focus was too much on them. Every companion had to have a secret or becomes a plot device for a season finale. Dr. Who is about the Doctor and his companions. Not the companion getting the top billings over the Doctor. I think River Song's arc was the weakest of them followed by Clara. At least with Amy and Rory they stayed long enough to get attached to them and know the pain they went with. River felt like a forced love interest to the Doctor and Clara didn't stay long to have more attachment to her.

But for the regular stories, I think they were good and fun for the most part. It didn't delve too much to the melodramatic angst attacks and that worked out to me.

    -----------------

So, I guess that's it guys. Where do I go now...? Well, I need to check out Torchwood and Sarah Jane series, and need to check out the audio adventures, and till we meet Peter Capaldi which I really hope they bring the series back to its classical roots now that we are with an older Doctor and there's no way they will make stupid romantic plots with him.

Not sure... maybe Rory's father for their relationship (and the pocket thing they have)

Torchwood season 1 and 2 are o.k, avoid children of earth and miracle day as they are complete tripe. Sarah Jane has its moments and the cameos from classic villains and the drs are nice.

    Agreement.

Torchwood was going to be this X-files meets Doctor Who with the kid gloves off and with "adult" storylines. Instead it was like what a teenager thought was mature (An alien that kills you by making you have an orgasm!) and ended up getting progressively worse as the series went on, to the very poor Children of the Earth and the it doesn't make a lick of sense Miracle Day.

Sarah Jane Smith is a bit too saccharine child friendly, but it has it's moments. The Judoon in a car chase driving the speed limit, Jo Grant meeting Sarah Jane Smith, a final outing with Sarah and the Brig.

I pretty much agree with everything you have to say with your post about Smith's final run.
Also, I couldn't get into Torchwood (or as I call it, "Touchwood"). The sex monster that Pravus Prime mentioned was a huge indicator to me that the show wasn't going to be something I could take seriously. And then on the complete opposite side of the spectrum the Sarah Jane show was much too kid friendly for me.
The audios that I have listened to have been fun, but I've listened to a tiny fraction compared to the mass amount that Big Finish has released. My favorites to listen to are McGann because of his lack of screen time and Tom Baker for warm, fuzzy nostalgic feelings of watching my favorite Doctor when I first discovered him on PBS, but all of the other Doctors do a great job too. Big Finish is very good about how they treat the characters and stories. If you're not sure where to begin with Big Finish if you should choose to give them a listen or if you are just wanting to listen to only one to see if it's your thing or not you could listen to Light at the End, which was the 50th Anniversary story with all of the classic Doctors together.
As for going ahead, I too have high hopes for Capaldi. I'm happy to see an older Doctor again, I'm glad we're done with River Song's character now (I hope), and hopefully Moffat has gotten marrying off the Doctor and threatening to tell everyone his name and all that crap out of his system. And maybe since we've gotten Clara's big mystery story out of the way and she's still around this might mean that the next season will break the formula of "the companion is so important" and we can move on to getting back to just telling stories about the Doctor's travels, though I fear that's probably too much to hope for.

    Also,
that episode was a whole lot of "ugggh" for me. I knew another guy that told me he had to take a break from watching the show after that one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that how the series started out, with the Doctor being this wise sagely guy eating up the background, while the companions took center stage?

They just had a repeat of one of those count down top whatever type shows about Doctor Who on BBC 3 and It had a clip i'd not seen with 11 looking at a diary and saying he got his memories back and a very tanned Clara talking about going on Holiday and calling him "My Friend".

Was that from the competetion entry minisode some kid wrote - or something else - I'm always missing minisodes it seems - usually ones that contain important information.

Curious how they failed to mention the Tardis as a character very much (but I did miss the beginning of that show) oh and Karen had short hair like she had for other work - or maybe it's just as a disguise - Like that Girl from the Secret life of Alex Mack who used to dye her hair between seasons to stop 40 year old otaku types creeping over her ?

I have made almost every doctor in 1/6 scale(Not to mention a bunch of companions) The ones I didn't make I got the official ones.
