I kid you not, I just almost pissed my pants. I am not a believer in killing spiders, and I am not afraid of spiders, but I just woke up to a brown recluse spider crawling on my arm. I threw him outside, but I am actually afraid to go to sleep now, knowing the damage they can do if they bite you.

No but I once woke up because I could hear one crawling on the wall which was pretty trippy.

It probably already bit you and you don't know it yet…nice knowing you :lol

In all seriousness, the chances of one biting you while you're asleep are ridiculously low, Brown Recluses don't usually bite unless provoked and even then the chances are still pretty low.

Really? I would consider myself lucky if bitten by a spider. I could shoot webs from my wrists, lift several times my own weight, and possess sensory precognition. It would be awesome!

For the record, I actually had a fairly large spider crawl right next to my face in bed a few months ago. I would never even have seen it were it not for the light from my iPod.

While that may be true, I've seen the effects of being bitten by one, and it's not something I'm going to take any chances with.

Was it tap dancing or something? Normally those things are quiet.

Yea I know its rare for them to bite, but if you roll on them or do what I did(I slap at it first being I was still asleep and not realizing what was happening), they will bite.

Well, never a spider, but I used to wake up with a baby crawling on me back in the good old days of the little bro's babyhood. Some days would have preferred a spider.

That said, scary shit right there. I'd freak out forever if I had that happen to me XD

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to sleep after that... christ!

A somewhat related story, my friend's former roommate used to breed spiders. Specifically, Black Widows. One day, he accidentally knocked his Black Widow enclosure and all the egg sacs he was tending to fell out and burst. The baby Widows scurried to shelter. He assured us that they all "likely" died within hours, being that they were in a concrete apartment building, and there was no food in the walls. I could no longer visit my friend at his apartment after that.

For an accurate description of my reaction to this, see "NOPE.gif" posted by ArmadaJetfire above. (my favorite reaction gif ever!)

I miss having mornings like that. This thread made me think of my pet European House spider that died of old age. :( :cry

The damage from recluse bites are often pretty exaggerated and misdiagnosed. While it CAN certainly react the way you imagine sometimes, a lot of the bad bite cases reported are misdiagnosed skin infections or other similar things. A lot of doctors don't know too much about spider bites. This isn't to say being bit is a good thing because hey who likes to be bitten by stuff, but it's not quite as scary as rumor would have believed, at least.

Never had a brown recluse on me, but I have had many other spiders on me, I'll usually let them do what ever they're doing, unless it's preventing me from sleeping, then I'll push them towards where they were heading. In case you couldn't figure it out, I'm not afraid of spiders, and let them crawl on me when I'm awake, so what's the difference when I'm asleep, you know?

I'm wondering how you knew it was a brown recluse? Those things are almost impossible to positively ID on sight.

Anyway, no, I've never woken up to find a spider on me. I did find a tick once while camping but other than that, my sleep remains bug-free.

I've woken up to bugs crawling on me lots of times, over the years. Mostly spiders. It sucks, but I'd rather have them on me than an earwig. Or a wasp.
