I learned how to Properly handle Guns/Rifles when I was 8, and I'm training my Sons as well. Ignorance is the main issue here, whether on the Parents part or the Kids. As I said before, there is no excuse for leaving firearms where untrained children can access them. Here in Florida, leaving an unsecured firearm where children can get them is a Felony, as well it should be.

Not sure why or how the whole Bunny thing would be at all useful... Better the Bunny than your Brother? Proper Training teaches you not only HOW to handle guns safely, but also the right circumstances under which to USE it. Sorta like studying Martial Arts...not only do you learn how to Defend yourself you also learn when and why....

I think it's ignorance and avoidance.

People think, I have a gun to protect the house or to go hunting, but my child doesn't need to know about it. Well your child is gonna know about it, whether you like it or not.

So the question is, what do you want your child to know about the firearm? Nothing? Then your going to have a problem.

Trust me, you shoot a gun a around a 6 year old, he doesn't think COOL. He thinks "oh shit, I get it now"

It was kind of a reflection on that spec ops training myth (?) where they get soldiers to basically raise a bunny for a month or something, amongst all their hard training. By the end of training that bunny has become their best friend but their final test is to wring it's neck, cook it and eat it.

    I wasn't being entirely serious.

I read somewhere that is what the SS did in Germany, but with puppies. It supposedly taught them to kill without thinking, or emotional attachment.....

Kinda glad you weren't being serious!

I know the British SAS use the Bunny, and the Green Berets used to do it as well ( IDK if they still raise them, but they still have to kill live animals during their final exercise called Robin Sage)

As far as the killing dogs thing go - its a Military Urban myth, its been associated with the Nazi's during WW2, Army Rangers since the 50's, USMC during Gulf War 1 etc..

There was the dog lab however created for US Special Forces at Ft. Bragg. The idea was to "injure" a puppy, and have SF train to treat and care for the dog. The Army found out that more than 90% of trainees couldn't injure the dog, so the lab was changed to Sheep/Goats. ( If you have read the book or seen the Movie, The Men who stare at goats- this is the Goat lab)

I don't get the reasons for those type of exercises. Is it to see if people can take life? What does raising a rabbit and having to eat it have to do with Human life?

I think people get out to war, and do what is necessary.

Having said that, I would assuming hunting and trapping is a basic part of combat training (or I hope it is). So I am sure they have plenty of practice killing animals. But at least that has a point. To survive.

It was the Waffen SS and it was Puppys the reason was to show there loyalty to the cause that they will kill there companion with out hesitation. this was used as a Sith exersize in Starwars.

I agree if you have Guns in the house atleast teach the kids how dangerous they are.
sure you get the idiots who are like."Mah 2 yeah old knows not to touch mah guhn."
Rememer how mutch of a dumbass you were as a kid?
because if you think you wern't go ask your perents.. thet have some bad news for you.
as i said before i have my views i try not to share them to mutch to avoid hassle.
If you own guns great good for you. i lik em to they are cool but keep em away from kids. yeah i know you trust your kids but kids mess up teaching them firearms safty is awesom but thats half of the process keeping the guns away from kids is the second.
as for those Jr Guns that are made for kids.. giveme a break.

    Biff, is that you?

Point is, what does making the front page have to say about importance or people's ability to care. It was a hyperbolic comment that has no basis on how people act or think in the real world.

They say "take it off the boards", so that's what I do when I have to. You got a problem with common sense and simple rules? But this being TFW2005, I'm sure you'll get away with calling me little bitch while I'll get a warning for pointing it out.

They never intended pms to be your avenue to verbal abuse other members, so it's you that appears to have a problem with common sense and simple rules.

So, you think you're free to troll all you want, to insult me, to call me names, and I'm supposed to not react? And then you have the balls to complain about "verbal abuse"? Really?

On top on calling me "little bitch", you also posted:

It's a terrible tragedy and all, but what's the point of making a thread about it. Either you have an agenda or you're just a morbid sob.

    And then:

Anyone else trying to make more of it either has an agenda or is completely oblivious to the world around them. So it begs the question, why even start threads like this.

    Clearly trying to provoke me.

You know what's sad here? You seem to think tragedies like this are normal and that nothing should be done to change that. It's better to close your eyes and pretend nothing happened.

What is wrong with having an agenda, anyway? Like, wow, you have reasons behind the words you put out about things that happen, so weird, so unprecedented. too spooky~

i thought it was bits of data. :)

poor kids. one dead and the other will get fucked up in the head when she learns what she did at 3.

my dad used to have a shotgun he kept under the bed while i was 2. he caught me going under the bed and immediately sold the shotgun to make sure it wouldn't hurt or kill my mum, my sister or myself.

last year, a friend of our family gave an old revolver as a gift. there are no bullets for it. we keep it as decoration.

    Dude....:lol

I find it kinda funny you're going off on smkspy when you've lately posted quite a bit of what could be considered "anti-American" sentiments. Yet, no one ever said anything to you about it til his post you seemed to remember word for word, that he also edited "for content." As for "provoking" you.....aren't your seemingly "anti-American" sentiments also provocative in and of itself? If that's not your intention, then why not refrain from such commentary? Oh but of course, here comes the "freedom of speech" bit huh? If you're going to resort to that, you know it goes both ways man....

Honestly, if you're going to throw veiled or direct insults at people of a nation (or even the nation itself), at least have the cahones to withstand comments coming back your way.
