Help Handsome Jack, still lowly Hyperion engineer John rise to power in the prequel to Borderlands 2. You play on the moonbase, which comes with it's own set of issues as 1 of 4 beloved/hated characters. Athena, the former Atlas assassin now working for Jack. Wilhelm, pre cyberman. Nisha the lawbringer, who we know better as the Sheriff of Lynchwood. And Claptrap, yes that claptrap, with the Fangtrap upgrades. 1 new weapon type, lasers, 1 new element, cryo, and a new gameplay mechanic, the O2. See, you're in a vacuum, so you need to keep up your supply of oxygen so you can breath. On the plus side, you can shoot the masks off of baddies and, well, you know what happens. Comes out in August for last gen only.
Oh hell yes. I find Athena's special ability interesting, and the ability to play as a Claptrap is awesome!
I'm really interested to see how the new mechanics change things up. The O2 levels you have to monitor, lasers and ice bullets, etc. Best part I saw was how low gravity was. You can blast enemies off the surface if you hit their feet with an explosion.
Eh... I'm not too big a fan of prequels. And while both Borderlands games had some great meat to them, I've been left unsatisfied by the way both of them ended. I don't know, I think I might pass on this one.
Which is fine. Put it on next gen. Having a AAA game release on only last gen instead of both is stupid at this point, especially a year from when they released.
another gearbox outsource. sigh. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel sticking to PC, older consoles | Ars Technica
I will be getting it. I love the cast so far. Borderlands 2 is one of the best games of the last gen, and probably the best co op game I have ever played.
I have a hunch this will be more or a $30-40 "value-title" than a full blown $60 deal, with a possibly shorter campaign. Which could go with what Cracka J mentioned, while the main team is working on a 3.
Borderlands 2 was incredible. The DLCs for it sucked ass, but the game itself? I am totally up for another. AND I don't have to buy a new damn console to play it? Sold.
Well... okay. Just fix up the damn trees. I've never been so apathetic about leveling up in a video game like in the Borderlands series.
Gearbox Explains No 'Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel' on Next-Gen Makes absolute sense why it's on last gen only. That's where the player base is now. Borderlands 2 itself has sold more that both PS4s and XB1s have. Why would you hamstring your sales by limiting it to the new consoles that don't yet have that massive userbase that you're catering to? and then of course you have the licenses, getting your tech set up for new hardware, tons of cost, etcetera. No, this is a very understandable and business savvy move on Gearbox's part. I both understand and agree.
