Instead of trying to use putty or whatever on someone else's head to make it look more like Chromedome, can someone whip up an IDW-style head? Looking to put it on the Prime RiD Wheeljack. It doesn't need to transform into a Headmaster - I'd prefer if it doesn't actually. Yes, yes, I know there is a TFCC Chromedome coming out this year, but it's a little rich for my tastes. I know this one exists, but it'd still need a visor: Chromehead by Cypherplex Thanks in advance.
If anyone else is interested in following this. I PMd Cypherplex on Shapeways and got a response back.
I am also interested in this. Going on the Transformers Prime Wheeljack mold is the clear choice for me. I've seen a few using the Vehicon Mold from that line, and it's just too... evil for my likes.
Yes! It looks fantastic. I've been needing to order some things from shapeways for awhile, but I'll definitely wait until this is done.
I have sent cypherplex the head from my RiD/Takara Wheeljack. If Canada Post is behaving itself, it should arrive today or tomorrow.
I did get the head several weeks ago and I've started working out how to break this up into two pieces. It's trickier than I thought as while I was modeling the head, I didn't take into account I'd have to link various pieces together. Anyway, it's going slow, but going. One vertex at a time.
Ah thanks for the update. I was going to email you to ask for an update, but this precludes the need for that. Thank you again.
Hey Carissa, OK, this light piping thing is really kicking my ass so before I keep breaking my head over it, I am going to do a test print to make sure the scale is appropriate. I made a box the size of the Wheeljack head you sent around my 3D model and scaled it to fit in there. Chromedome's head will be a lot less wide than Wheeljack's is, so I'm willing to bet it's going to end up looking too small once on the toy (kinda like the Punch/Counterpunch head ended up looking since they scaled it to Red alert's head instead of the available cavity space). So I'll make a test print and mail it to you first so you can tell me what it's like. Thing is, these days, Shapeway's shipping is ridicoulously pricey. I have a couple other things to print to fill up the box, so I'll let you know when the test print is in and you can tell me where to mail it to you.
Update: Shapeways is telling me they can't print it because of minimum wall tolerances. There's so many areas I have to fix, I'm starting to think I should give up. Not in the right frame of mind to tackle this right now so I'll get back to it next week.
I am patient. Notice how I haven't been bugging you about it? (Partially because I got involved in a heavy custom)
And I appreciate it greatly. My main issue is that it seems even my older models won't print anymore, so it's definitely because they changed their policies about printing thinner walls. I guess in the past they'd still give it a shot to see how far they could push their printers... Anyway, I'm thickening up the parts it says need it. The print might need some trimming in some spots unfortunately. Hope you're skilled with an exacto knife.
Skilled enough. Plus I have emery boards. Which areas is Shapeways giving you complaints about? So I have a heads up when it finally allows a printing.
OK, it's up, but I'm running a test print first, which I will mail to Carissa for her approval. If she thinks it works, then the head will be available as a single piece, and I'll keep working on getting the light piping feature going for the ones that want it. The areas that need to be finished off are basically the points of the head wings. they'll have a blobby area there that I just couldn't avoid, but the point part is well defined. I'm seeing some additional blob in the corner edges of the cheek guards and the helmet, but I expect those won't be too apparent. Here's a screen shot. The blue areas are where they're adding something to my mesh. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kumxe6x4k4cfi9w/Screenshot 2014-04-05 16.36.23.png
That looks easy enough to fix. x-acto knife and emery board Yay someone's gonna have a proper buddy soon!
