It does come off a little bit like that, doesn't it? Still it isn't like I personally believe such things. And I am not saying you believe I do, I'm just saying to each their own.

Personally, the only reason I now own any MP figures is because I finally have some funds I can work with, after missing out on both Soundwave and Acid Storm back in October I decided that I would nab Optimus as soon as I saw him because to me the mold is definitely worth owning.

Do I hold it above any other figure to such heights that I consider my past purchases as being garbage and inferior as Malware5 seems to imply with his post? No, I consider it to be an improvement on the G1 figure I once owned before realizing that the original just wasn't for me.

These Masterpiece figures have excellent engineering and impressive designs, they do an adequate job of bringing forward the G1 aesthethic with modern toy engineering and replicating the classic look.

That being said I still enjoy my Prime figures, my Generations, my RiD... I do find myself on the verge of a large scale purge in order to bring more focus to my collection. I think MP figures are definitely worth getting in the future, and if I only buy Transformers once or twice a year when I pick up some MP figures then I cut down on my spending. Mind you that's a big IF, a lot of the recent Generations figures have tempted me and if they were within my price range/budget at the moment I'd be all over them. Patience is always the key, I was patient enough that I got a representation of MP-10, now I just have to play catch up with the Cars and Soundwave and even the Seekers to a lesser extent, though if I'm patient on that end I'll wind up with a bunch of deals through fellow collectors. Or I won't own everything, not really a big problem either way.

It took me 25+ years to own a G1 Fortress Maximus, if it takes me another 10 to own even one of each MP mold to show off and display, than so be it.

Honestly though, while some MP collectors have this huge status symbol chip on their shoulders we aren't all like that and I feel that really we can all live and agree that Transformers figures have changed a hell of a lot over the decades, heck the past three years have seen a lot of sudden and not necessarily welcome changes for our mass market collectibles.

It's nice to have an alternative where the costs aren't skimped on, the plastics aren't made too cheaply that they often come out of the package stressed already and in dager of falling apart because they are so brittle, or 5 POA becomes the norm because Hasbro's trying to aim for a younger target market. Sometimes it's fun to have simple figures, other times you want something a bit more impressive to display... And that's where the MP line comes in for us adult collectors who have begun to feel burned out by Hasbro's mainline offerings.

malware5's attitude however is a bit of a downer in the eyes of some. I'll grant you that.

By the way, collecting MPs exclusively does not make one a "superior" collector. I don't have any respect for this condescending attitude.

Honestly, it comes down to which mold you prefer in cases like these. I would get Soundblaster, as that mold is so fun and intuitive. While the seeker mold is nice and looks great, I don't feel he lives up to the newer masterpieces. He comes off as diddly, in my book. So I recommend you definitely go for Soundblaster. I just sold my MP-11 for MP-10B, and I don't regret it at all.

Thanks guys! It's my first experience with the mold, and I like it a lot. But to be honest, the plastic does feel a bit low-quality.

For me, it's about character. I love SoundBlaster, but if I already had Soundwave (an essential character) then I'd have to go for Starscream (an essential character). No one's going to know or care if your collection doesn't have SoundBlaster because most guys haven't watched Japanese G1, but everyone will ask "Where the hell's Starscream?"

Wow...it seems that you can't say anything these days without someone getting offended, the sensitive times we live in today!?

To the first highlighted statement, how so? Judging by Scrapper's initial statement about wasting time on non-mp figures it is very clear that he's more satisfied or at least implied it, with the relatively fewer mps he's accrued in this short space time. Meaning he's got fewer figures he really liked as opposed to lots of figures he sort of liked, that's all. I then said I felt MP's were the pinnacle of transformers and G1, my opinion, I didn't slate any other line in my statement as far as I'm concerned. If you're insecure about what you collect that's entirely up to you, buddy!

To the second, no you shouldn't, like I said to each his own! But I'm sure you can understand the confusion, from your post about wasting time with non-mps in the past you did come across as if you were implying the non-mp figures were garbage. Your words not mine! I only concurred in saying quality over quantity as in getting what you really liked over stuff you sort of liked.

And to the last, I'm not exclusively masterpiece I also collect Sunbow G1, I really don't know what the hissy fit is about on your behalf, really.

In closing I was going to apologise but as I've dissected all your points and haven't seen anything wrong with my statements I'd like to apologise to all the masterpiece fans that came to witness/appreciate awesome masterpiece pictures and have had to witness this instead.:cry

Who else is going to have their SoundBlaster facing off against Rodimus, the only other MP from Headmasters we currently have?

eh? if your sick of it why are you in this thread ? or just here to slam people that collect these? the title of the thread is "the masterpiece appreciation thread" so its chockablock full of pictures and people into these .... and i don't see anybody else saying they are superior to collectors of other lines where the hell are you getting that from?

also why is it that newbies to tfw2005 have to give it the large as if they have something to prove :lol

You don't have to be a G1 slave to appreciate how well done the current Mps are, if you're just a toy fan in general you should get it. You're collecting what you like, there's nothing wrong with that, but I agree with his comment, if you could afford Mp's why wouldn't someone try them out. Unless you don't like the designs. If you don't like the designs though this probably isn't the best thread to hang out in. There is a CHUG appreciation thread.

I gave up my CHUGS in favor of the Mps after things started booming with mp10, I got sick of hollow forearms, lack of articulation, cheap plastic, poorly painted figures. What I wanted all along was a complete G1 cast, that held up to their legacy. Hasbro has made many good figures, but they'll always be lower quality simply to meet the price point. Oil keeps going up in price, they need oil to make toys, so for them to keep the kids toys, at kid toy prices they have to keep hacking away at budgets and finding ways to save ( hollow sections, less joints, etc)

Its not condescending to think something is better on its own merits, it's condescending to think its better because you have it and the other guy doesn't.

Sorry dude, maybe my post did imply it first... It's hard to know how others percieve what I write and then the comments expanded by replies are taken completely out of context.

I didn't mean to offend either, my bad.

On a more positive note, seeing as how I've always been a huge fan of the character's design and no matter how many times he's re-done Hasbro always misses the mark, I just pre-ordered Wheeljack. I'm looking forward to August now, at least I can save up at my liesure for him rather than trying to find almost 250 for Soundblaster... Or was he cheaper and Ultra Magnus was pre-ordered at 250? Er, either way Soundblaster is impossible to afford right now, so I'll just have to hope for a miracle to get him.

I mean yeah, Generations was a nice update, with a few flaws due to having to be made into Tracks as well for mold re-use cost maximization of profits, and Downshift isn't meant to be Wheeljack, unfortunately he does homage the guy and I was never a big fan of him and the Prime version is... Well great for Prime, just not for a modern take of the G1 character. So yeah, Wheeljack's MP should look great, I hope.

Incidentally I believe with this announcement and pre-order being made live that means we've gotten two characters voiced by Chris Latta in the MP line, Starscream and Wheeljack... I forget who else he voiced, I think one of the Constructicons or Stunticons perhaps, but either way if they ever made an MP of his other characters we'd have a complete set. (Toss in Cobra Commander for good measure and we're set.)
