Going off the release I suspect "3D but rendered so that it looks like it's a 2D cartoon." Which can be a pretty well done technique if done right.

 

So Bee's pulling a BM Cheetor. He even has BM Cheetor's shoulders, kinda.

The promo really does look like Prime Bee done in TF Animated style. Makes me wonder what they mean by the animation being a mix of CG and hand painted backgrounds.

 

Yeah, I remember when the original Animated promo art looked like and how *fucking identical* many of the comments being made about this are to what was said then, and how little merit they wound up having so, yeah, forgive me for not putting a lot of stock in any dissections of this bit of art right now.

Really like the design of Bumblebee, but why does he have to be the leader? So many people to choose from and they always go for Bumblebee. Might aswell be called Transformers: Bumblebee

 

Not gonna lie: at first glance, I thought this was fan art.
Like somebody mis-mashing parts from Prime characters into one (Smokescreen head and shoulders, Vehicon chest, Bumblebee colors) and then tried to go for something closer to the Animated aesthetic. The legs look really, really off.


BUT YOU KNOW, we were all wrong when we judged the first Animated promo image as well, so for now I'm not going to shoot this down - I'll wait for more info and proper cartoon shots  

(still..I can't help but feel this is doing the same thing wrong Prime did: trying to blend multiple different Transformers styles into one, hitting middle ground at 'generic'. Please let me be wrong)  

Not too thrilled of it being a sequel to Prime, but if the show is good, it's good. I'd watch it.  

Yeah exactly. I'm sure this design will look tons better in the show itself. The article even describes it will be a blend of cgi and handpainted backgrounds, and this doesn't show that at all.

Wonder if things have been pushed back or if the TF event in the Fall that has been mentioned is going to be a premier miniseries/movie...

I love the idea of a new cast of Autobots. But Bumblebee is now the leader? I don't know how I feel about that.

 

If it were possible, I would rather prefer a sequel to Animated...of course that would mean throwing out the Aligned Universe. Ugh, sometimes I wish Revenge of the Fallen never happened, and we got a 4th season to Animated.

 

Yeah, both Prime and Animated had VERY poor first images.

In fact, Animated's first shot of Optimus looks a LOT like this, style-wise.

If they can honestly keep Prime out of the series (or very little) I'll be impressed.

I'm hopeful....but we'll see. Hopefully a new cast will bring better characters.

 

I'll reserve judgement till I see more news about it, but everyone must be serious that Optimus will turn up at some point. I don't see them straying too far from formula. Animation sounds like a stripped down Prime hybrid. If it has a grain of More Than Meets The Eyes characters and tone I'll give it a whirl.

Here's to hoping figures are on shelves when the show airs(not show up a year after airing)and are not completely hollowed out thin plastic and 2" tall deluxe's by then.

 

I was hoping they'd give the faces more form and noses this time instead of these really really awkward undefined flat faces they kept using in Prime.

The design itself looks totally meh though.

 

Yeah, cel-shaded CGI seems the most obvious way to reconcile that quote with the promo image.

The lack of vehicle kibble on 'Bee is a little concerning. You'd think that with Hasbro's drive to make more play-friendly toys, they'd go for transformation scheme that can actually be pulled off on a simpler toy...

 

Huh, looks rather nice, really reminds me of Rescue Bots, which I love, but I can't say I'm too excited, what with it being a continuation of Prime, as well as Bumblebee being the focus, but who knows? A new team and setting may liven things up. But "blending 3-D characters with hand painted environments"? I thought the show was going to be completely 2-D? Is it going to be cel-shaded? Anyways, i'll definitely and try keep an eye on this

Oh that could work, Paperman is a great example, where cel-shading looks absolutely brilliant, although obviously the show won't look anywhere near that good

in a brutal manner but that was about it. TBH give some cartoons based on the IDW comics or something. Or maybe link it up with the damn dinobots or pre-war cybertron (from the aligned novels/comics). I'm not really looking forward to bumblebee in a leading position (Over Ultra Magnus, the leader of the wreckers in the aligned continuity)or a transformer series where its normal for 12 year olds to be fighting giant robots and never getting hurt..... :<<<<<<
