Hey guys and gals, so I'd like to know:

Does anyone recommend a completely free antivirus program they use for your computer that you're happy with?

I remember way back AVG used to be completely free and it got the job done, so what sort of spyware sweeper and antivirus do you guys use??

I figure I'd have to use combination of both, spyware sweep and antivirus. It's for a PC that doesn't get used to often, so I kinda don't want to spend cash for a year of protection on a PC that's used very few times.

    AVG.
It Ain't great, but it gets the job done, though it does have to hijack my machine once a week for about a half an hour.

All I could find with AVG is a free 30 day trial.

I find anti virus programs cause more problems then they solve.

They slow your system down, theyre annoying, they pop up shit when you dont want them too... sound familiar?

Ah, I haven't tried Avast yet. I'm guessing that one is free?

Windows Defender. IT is fantastic and completely free. I actually learned about it from one of my friends who is a systems engineer.

Avast is brilliant. I've used it for years on all my machines.

For free antivirus programs, Avast has been great. The software has been much more bloated and naggy in recent years, but its still what I install on everyone's computers.

I've heard pretty good things about Windows Defender, as well.
