Who says he didn't? Welliver is just his Bay's own hand-puppet, really. Those words were prepared by someone at Paramount or Hasbro, or Welliver's agency.

All I'm hearing is "give us your money, so bring the kids so you can pay for their tickets"

Michael's hand is ankle deep into Welliver's bung-hole.

One would have to be ******ed to think it's going to be any different, specially after 3 movies already.

A strange mentality in the US that if a film isn't rated R or rated X then it's okay for kids or must be a movie for kids. Just because a film doesn't have something to push it into the R rating that doesn't mean that every film below an R rating is just fine for kids of any age.

Of course in the desperate bid to fill seats the studio is going to insist that it's a film for everyone and they will swear up and down that it's a good film that no one will never ever find any fault or disappointment in.

As to back peddling, well how many times has the director said he's leaving the franchise so back peddling is nothing new to the live action franchise.

Totally true. As a parent of two young boys, I'm very careful which movies I let them see. Something like Thor, Captain America, Avengers, etc, is fine for them, because it's no different than a Saturday morning cartoon... Just done with live actors instead of animation.
Movies like Transformers, x-men, Nolan's dark knight trilogy, and several others, have innuendo, several have f-bombs now, and the violence is far more intense. These movies will be on hold til they are older.

Off topic, but...I'm curious. What was their reaction to the first Captain America movie when Cap eviscerated a guy with the jet's blades?

I thought nothing of his original comment, but now I think this is just stupid. This news, in particular, is clearly damage control. Terrible damage control.

We need more sensible parents in the world like you.

Sounds like someone got a talking to. :lol

Reading it I actually pictured him stating this all in a indignant sarcastic tone.

You can practically hear the Paramount and/or Hasbro representatives in the background whisper-shouting this.

Except for the first one the movies are a joke anyway so I would expect nothing less.

Serious marketing bullshit, kind of hilarious really. They are probably afraid his statement throws a light on the movie which doesnt go well with their intended marketing, but that doesnt necessarily make it less true.
