Won't happen; not with all the use Death's Head has gotten lately.

I always thought a good trade-off would be Hasbro gives Marvel Rom, and in exchange Marvel gives Hasbro Circuit Breaker.

Hm I vaguely remember Rom as a kid it was in older comics that I'd get for being a good boy at the dentist. He once teamed up with Luke Cage and Ironfist which I thought was dope. I think the last I heard of Rom is when Ultron used his body as a host in an Avengers comic a year or so back.

The original Rom story was really good. While they can't use the Dire Wraiths and Space Knights that are owned by marvel, that doesn't mean they couldn't create a new story that takes the basic concepts from the original comics and uses them to create something new. Rom started out as a humanoid on a distant planet who exchanged part of his humanity for mechanical parts and armor to become one of the cyborg space knights. The part of his humanoid body that was removed so he could become a cyborg had been stored away until the day when the Dire Wraiths were all defeated and he could become human once again. I think at one point these human parts were destroyed by one of his enemies.
They wouldn't have to follow that story exactly, but there is so much there that they could use to build a new mythos that would still capture the spirit of the original series. Maybe make some changes so that the series doesn't have such a set endpoint of "all these bad guys will eventually be defeated and the series will end".

Rom coming back ins good but i certainly hope it will not be related to Transformers too much. Rom had an excellent story on its own so why combine things.

BUt other than Rom, it may be difficult to get a full toy line out of that.

I've just been hoping that Hasbro releases an articulated ROM toy. They have both the ROM and the Marvel license. It's a tricky copyright situation but Hasbro is in the best possible situation given how convoluted it is.

That doesn't seem like a good plan, given ROM is way more toyetic than Circuit Breaker.

You know, if Hasbro was smart, they'd do a trade with Marvel. Rom for Circuit Breaker and the Neo-Knights, etc.

It's not a hissy fit. If they can't use Rom, don't use Rom. That's fine.

Like if after Transformers comics had been gone for the better part of a decade, if a publisher decided to revive Transformers... but now as green, fluffy bunnies who drive cars and use electrical transformers. Yeah, someone like you could say, "Well look, Budiansky and Marvel came up with all that original mythology and blah blah blah." But that's a moronic, defeatist argument. I think most of the rest of us would rather have no TF comics at all than have the franchise reimagined as something completely unrelated to the original and be TF in name only.

You may have no investment in the original Rom. That's fine. But then, why care about them using the Rom name at all? What does it do for you? Nothing.

Marvel also owns everything related to the Micronauts, other than the main characters themselves (and some of them, they DO own). That didn't stop DDP from creating a new version of the original concepts. They didn't have to create something unrelated.

That would work as long as Marvel retained the right to reprint material with CB in it, like Secret Wars II. I think she also appeared in New Mutants. So I wouldn't want Marvel to lose the ability to reprint stuff like that in its entirety.

The only one being moronic here is you. Transformers and everything Transformers related belongs to HASBRO. Marvel was just a publisher for the comics they don't own right for any of the Transformers characters or concepts UNLESS they have been used before in their comic (like how Death's Head appeared in cameos before his debut in Transformers) thus making it their proprety.

ROB, the Space Knights and all of his mithology belongs to MARVEL not HASBRO. HASBRO has the toy and the name MARVEL has everything else.

You can ignore the legal issues and rights and put your fingers in your ears and go "LAALALALALALA I'M NOT LISTENING I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG LALALLALALA" all you want but that doesn't change the fact that if Hasbro wants to make a new ROB figure a Transformer and tells IDW to make them a new mythology that they can have rights to from now on they will do it.

That's what companies do when they get a trademark. They make it their bitch weather the fanbase likes it or not.

The exception to that is the Circuit Breaker character, who had no other appearances prior to her debut in the Transformers comic, yet Marvel still has the rights to the character.

Circuit Breaker appeared in Secret Wars II before she debuted in Transformers. It's the Death's Head syndrome where they had the character appear in a MU book before Transformers so Hasbro couldn't claim it.

It's going to be shit (I had an irrational attachment to that oversized Action-Man related Brick as a kid despite the fact it was pretty crap and his "story" was mostly phoned-in Generic Mantlo Sy-Fy a la the Dire Wraiths would make it a fucking crowded planet what with all the Skrulls and all) but if I got a Rom figure like we are getting DeathsHead I would be fucking overjoyed.

Make one 'Bro, and I shall buy two.

The Knights of Cybertron are the 13. The Holy texts describe them as the first generation of Cybertronians.

I find it hilarious that this came to light one day after Burnie Burns proclaimed "I don't need a reboot of ROM" as he picked a random character out of the air.
