It would be nice to not have to do that, though.

But Nintendo never previously set a precedent that would make people think that. Wii didn't have great third party support. Neither did GameCube. So I just don't understand all the bitching when there was literally no reason to think this wouldn't happen.

GC has decent third part support, a big problem though was that Nintendo insisted on mini-disc which made porting games over pretty difficult.
Wii didn't have third part support for obvious reasons, it was impossible to port them over. You had to build a game from the grounds up for the wii, something not many were willing to do.

Whatever new console Nintendo builds next time, they have to make sure it can easily get ports.

Exactly the same here. No AC IV or Arkham Origins for me....though nobody should be supporting WB with the shit they're pulling.

You're wrong. Perhaps we're not the whole Nintendo demographic, but plenty of us had Nintendo main consoles. Still do- I still rate Wii U as my main console and, as it always has been, my 360 as a side console for second hand multiplats. Up until 2010 I was solely Nintendo, no other system at all. And I was content, plenty of great games for me there. Wii had less that I'd liked and all my mates were bitching me about Halo (which really wasn't worth it I might add).

You on crack son. Did you own a Gamecube? I must have forty quality titles for that machine, a third of which will be first party and the rest from other developers. GC was a perfect console if you ask me.

Regardless of that, precedence means nothing. Why shouldn't people bitch that studios are flipping us the bird and handing out unfinished shit? If this happened to either of the other two you'd never hear the end of the crying.

I could be remembering wrong, but didn't the N64 have decent 3rd party support as well?

Yeah it did. Another console we had forty games for.

This whole "Nintendo gamers never buy for third party/Nintendo consoles never have third party support" is a load. This crap only started with the Wii.

@Cracker- traitor ;)  I'll be sad not to get them since both had my interest, but I'm not happy supporting companies so happy to take a dump on me. Not into that. I might pick them up off ebay next month if they've sunk to the £10-£15 price point (which wouldn't surprise, seems all third party titles are doing that quicker these days. Funny that.....almost like the titles aren't worth as much as their predecessors for some *strange* reason).

i got 69 games on n64 with 12 more games i want to get.

and i have 89 gamecube games with 19 games left on my list i want to get.

it erks me a bit that i read some developers say that the wiiU is gonna fail and don't want to develop games for it. rocky starts happen for ALL new consoles when they hit stores.

my cousin really wants a wiiU but doesn't want to spend $300 on it. i tell her that more than likely the price will drop again later this year. she asked me what games should she get. obviously, can't go wrong mario games.

i advised her to get batman: arkham city and arkham origins for her to try(she has a ps3 but only has arkham asylum.), tank!tank!tank! and wonderful 101 for her kids to try.

Devs are just pissed cuz theyre losing places to sell their games. No one wants an xbone, and the wiiu sucks for developing games due to crazy controllers, and lack of power. All that leaves is sony XD

Id be whiny too if i were trying to sell over the top advanced graphic games, and the console companies make it difficult.

The problem with all these over the top advanced graphics games is that they're glitchy as fuck and require more patching than the cheapos are willing to put into them.

    1) the issues with glitch games on x1/ps4 is because the console is new and devs are still learning to optimize hardware. look at pc games, starcraft 2 took a year for it's optimization patch to hit. same for akham origins, after optimization, it ran nicely for me. before, i couldn't even handle standing still as i'd get 12 fps.

    2) if no one wants an x1, why is the x1's sales forecast still better than the wiiu? the wiiu is the one that is constantly underselling its expectations, whereas the ps4/x1 are still selling rapidly. thats without any real AAA games, as MGS is hitting soon. not to mention both x1 and ps4 will have sold more units by the end of their first year than the wii u has. wii u sold 5 million, x1 is at 3, and ps4 at 4. and that is in 3 months, whereas the wii u had a whole year ahead of them.

    3) you're asking devs to take their product, which already has over 60% market reach [x1/ps4] and then redo it so it runs on vastly underpowered hardware. this is just home console, and doesnt include PC gamers. doesn't include the ps360. or the people on handhelds, and cell phones. you've got more chance to make something that runs on android/ios and have better sales. redoing all that, for 13% marketshare of the home console [a much smaller share if you count pc gamers], isnt worth it. as time goes on, the wii u market share will drop even more, as the wii u is projected to hit 8 million by the end of this year, whereas the ps4 has hit half that in 3 months.

it's not the devs that are to blame, it's the manufacturer. you can't ask a third party to make an upgrade for prime weaponizer optimus, as the figure itself is a true turd. if a third party makes an upgrade then realizes it's not worth the time/effort/energy/resources/funds to make it, then they wont bother. similarly, you can't ask someone to constantly make things for hardware that was underpowered to begin with. devs are still learning to get the full reach of the x1/ps4

also, a bigger issue lies with the wii u owners who refuse to buy multiplatform games for the wii u. every game that is multiplatform, the wii u version is outsold by every other console drastically. if more third party games were bought, they would be more interested in making games. put it this way, you see multiplatform games as ps4/ps3/x1/360/pc. all those sell well. then you look at the wii U sales of almost every multiplatform games, and they don't sell. people prefer the other versions because they are somehow better. say all you want about online, or graphics, but in the end, if you have a choice of two figures that are the same price, and one looks better, you'll go for the better looking one. if i could offer you the first henkei megatron at $20 or classics megatron at $20, which one would most people buy?

you say you don't want cod, madden, gta. but those sell. and those bring in more third parties to say, hey i can make money off making a game for the wii u. but if they dont sell, then the third party will realize it's not a worthy investment.

i would LOVE to have a wii u, just for metroid and zelda. but buying a console for that, isn't worth it to me. i will buy a ps4/x1 [in that order] because i do want the current gen games. both have a group of AAA exclusives that i want, and i'm happy with the choice of multiplayer and online games both consoles offer. but to buy a wii u, for just two series, and then not have any option to buy the other big multiplat games, i don't see a reason. i can get all the first party games of the ps4, and then any multiplat i would use the x1 for. but to grab a third console, the cost isn't worth it to me.

Apparently recent conversation has struck a nerve.

-Funny, I was thinking of games still present on last-gen systems, which are still glitchy as fuck. What hope have they of fixing problems on current gen if their last-gen stuff is crap?
Also, consoles won't be getting patches for Origins. WB can't be arsed.

-I couldn't care less why anyone would want an xbone, but that point's for rapid_fire

-Vastly underpowered! No. This isn't next-gen games that people are complaining about, it's last-gen games that have numerous features stripped and little to no optimisation. Lazy shit because they can't be bothered. Next-gen multiplats haven't arrive yet.

-Further missing the point to harp on about power.

-Oh yeah? So, we should all just buy this half-broken, unsupported crap and beg for more? Would you buy games that missed online components, have no DLC support and/or won't be receiving must needed patches? Why the fuck should we? Is it such a surprise that titles sell more on last-gen consoles when they have, oh I don't know, a FAR larger install base?

-Who said we don't want CoD? Or GTA? Did you even read the thread or are you just copy-pasting the usual?

This looks like a nice copy-paste rant, see the same plastered everywhere and anywhere Wii U owners complain about poor third party support.

My take on Nintendo and 3rd party support -

It's all about the money. Follow - Gamecube was a vastly underrated system with some GREAT 3rd party games...but it only sold 22 million worldwide and had the mini-discs, which made it more difficult for developers to design a new game and make money (only 22 million potential customers compared to ps2 150 million plus) or port games over (size of the mini disc being smaller) and benefit from selling to all of that generation's consoles.

Subsequently, I think the limited sales of Gamecube coupled with the radical focus on motion controllers made developers very wary of Wii. No one probably foresaw the Wii becoming so successful commercially (including 3rd party developers). When the 3rd party developers finally realized the potential to make money on the Wii, they hurried development and put out a ton of shovelware with some decent games mixed in.

And now, I think Nintendo's poor marketing and consequent sales have caused 3rd party developers to continue to focus on the playstations and xbox which just have a larger potential customer base.

I think the cost of game development has also ballooned in the last several years (with big budget blockbuster type of games) and has made 3rd party developers less likely to work with Nintendo. Nintendo as a game developer, is the exception to this trend, focusing on gameplay and fun - which works for us fans, but I think it does leave developers out in the cold.

that's interesting to note on WB's case. never been a fan of origins, but this is stupid. i agree with you on that. i didn't buy origins for full price [black friday $20], and it's a case of an exceedingly greedy developer. but other third party games such as cod, and arkham city, didn't sell as well as the third parties hoped. the online system, which is something xbox has had since it started with live, and sony took up with psn last gen, is always growing, but with the wii u, it's nintendo's first really proper online system, and they keep coming up short sadly.

actually next gen has arrived, in cod, battlefield and other multiplat games.

of course they have a far larger install base, theyve been out longer. your arguments were for the wii u though, or are you saying it is also last gen, and in that case i concede the argument because there is no point to compare last gen hardware with current gen.

there are many people who said 'we dont care about gta, cod, madden' in this thread. they said they are fine with none of those hitting their console because those are 'overrated'
maybe you need to go back and read what a lot of wii u owners are saying, they don't seem to care about the big name multiplat games

yes, i agree though that it's bad that you have to deal with crappy ports. but if you had a console that was on par with the current gen, then it would be more appealing for a developer's prospective. knowing you can hit over 80% by going pc/xbox/ps, it's not worth it.

put it this way, 40% of gaming is ios/android/3ds/vita/psp/ds. that's a market you can't release the big name games for in the same way, due to limitations of handheld. that 40% is unobtainable.

60% of the market is console + pc. 20% is pc, 40% is console. lets math.

    12 million nex gen consoles. 5m wii u, 4m ps4, 3m x1.
    40% wii u, 35% ps4, 25% x1.
so, 53% of the gaming market is x1/ps4/pc, where as 7% is wii u. the other 40% is the area we can't release the same games for as its handheld/mobile.

is it worth it, to a developer, to make a game for 7% of the home gaming market? or to put it in prospective combing all forms of gaming, pc, console, mobile, handheld, the wii u is 4%.

it's simply not worth it. with the recent sales forecast slash, it sends a message to third parties, that it's not a good investment.

you can see the same outrage with the tfcc scourge and maketoys tanker kit. the scourge is such a limited release figure, making an addon kit for it isn't feasable, and so maketoys [having made armors for both sg g2 prime, and sg magnus] decided instead to release their scourge kit using their own figure, instead of the addon. they went away from the first party figure, due to realizing how limited of market it is, and how it's not worth a release.

dont get me wrong, i love my 3ds. regret giving away my dslite, and feel that nintendo has done a great job on the handheld market, simply because the competition isn't all there yet. but on the console market, there is competition, and i would rather have the consoles that have more games and better developer support.

It's really not very impressive. Arkham City I can not speak for, but CoD lost out again because they chose to snuff players on DLC. Why buy a gimped version over one where you can get everything? Lost my sale.

It's a learning experience. Xbox Live was not always as robust as it is now, and PSN was rather shit to start with. The problem is that nobody seems to care that it is their first real online, would rather hold them to some insane standard than to the level the others were in the beginning. People are greedy and impatient.

:lol  calling Ghosts next Gen. No, my point here is that these titles are all being released on last-gen consoles, so they're not truly next-gen. If you can release them on last-gen, you can release them on Wii U since it ranks in between last and current gen.

Miss the point again- I'm saying that comparing raw data between two consoles, one having been around for, what, eight years or so?, the other a year and a few months is plain ridiculous. OF COURSE THEY HAVE A LARGER INSTALL BASE. If you're going to compare them, you need to look at in terms of the size of the install base.

Your edit in the post before this quoted one even proves the point, and contradicts the point before it. Of course people will buy the game on a console that has all the options, but who's fault is it that the options aren't available on the console we want it on? If it's us, well shit, we better stop being such lazy developers and put in the hours to put that stuff back in, cos it ain't cool nor fair to the consumer!
It's the kind of cyclical argument that's causing all the damn problems in the first place.

And that's their choice, but they hardly speak for those of us that do want this stuff. Not to mention, there'll be those who said that but are actually angry/annoyed that they can't get those titles on their console of choice. Blanket stereotyping of Nintendo fans is insulting.

Knowing that most, if not all, of these gaming engines currently in use are scaleable, and titles like Crysis 3 running perfectly on the console? There are no games out now, or coming out in the near future, that can't be realistically supported by Wii U. The excuses for not porting games to the console are poor and reek of laziness. A year or two down the line when the 360 and PS3 are no longer supported, and it's purely Wii U - PS4 - Xbone, then that argument might be valid. Right now, it reeks of the same poor sense used by a few developers. Plenty have come out saying how easy it is to port to Wii U, how much can be gotten out of it with just a little effort, but Western developers on the whole seem to be devolving into lazy, mouthy teenagers.

Why would I buy 3rd party games? They purposely exclude content, and for no reason. I wouldn't buy Black Ops II for Wii U because I wouldn't have been able to get the awesome Zombies maps, and TranZit is the shittiest excuse for a Zombies map ever. Initially intended to get Ghosts for Wii U but changed my mind when I found out about Extinction because I knew I wouldn't be able to get all the maps. But if the Wii U actually DID get that DLC, I would've got Ghosts on Wii U.

And that is where Nintendo is failing. Do you know why I bought a Gamecube? It was not for Mario or Zelda or even Metroid. It was for REmake, RE0, and RE4. In fact, I was not even a Zelda fan until after I played Twilight Princess and I was not into first person games at that time, so I really had no interest in the, at the time, upcoming Metroid Prime game. I bought a Gamecube plain and simple for those three Capcom games because also at the time, Resident Evil was my favorite game series. I was so captivated by the series that I bought a game console just for them. Nowadays, I cannot even stand the series and have not touched it since I suffered the horrors of RE6 and I am a huge Zelda fan these days.

No, I no longer hold any interest in the RE series. I sold off everything outside of REmake, 2, and 3. I'm just going to keep the RE series set in Raccoon City with the three main games that were located there.

You know, I haven't hardly touched my PS3 in a over a month or 2. Been playing my WiiU and 3DS with my 4 year old and having a blast. I've been on a huge Nintendo kick. Whether it's old school games or the newer ones. Plus they are great to play with my wife and child.
