I'm working my way through the complete JL and JLU series and I gotta say it's seriously awesome stuff. I thought it would be a pile of kiddy bullshit to start with but it's far from it. I'm especially fond of Unlimited for the way it shows off lesser known guys. I officially love Green Arrow and Black Canary. The Question and Vigilante are all kinds of awesome too. So anyone care to weigh in on the subject or have I created another useless and somewhat ******ed thread?
I got my brother season one of Justice League for Christmas, never having seen it for myself. We watched through it together, and I must say, I completely agree with you. It is an awesome show. It also reminded me how much I love batman, the only guy without powers, yet the guy who is continually getting the league out of trouble. Awesome.
Not at all ******ed, but JLU has been discussed usually when a desire for a good TF series is brought up. I can't say enough how great JLU was. I bought the entire 80s collection of The Question because of that. I also bought a Seven Soldiers of Justice book just to see what Vigs was like. I read Birds of Prey just for Huntress. The list goes on and on and on. JLU smashed to pieces the myth that a small cast is better for character development. They proved you can have a large and varied range of characters, just like G1 and GI Joe, and still manage to make people fall in love with those characters.
Yeah I've been Wiki'ing stuff like a crazy man. It's the humor in it that really gets me, mostly coming from the Flash. It's surprisingly adult given that it's a "kid's show".
JL/JLU is quite possibly the best Western animated show ever, and I believe the only show to equal it is BW. Batman: TAS is very close as well
The DCAU ( minus Superman TAS, maybe) is a benchmark in western animation. From the original Batman, right to JL, and then ending it beautifully with JLU. The facy that they built stories, and then resovled them in later seasons was fantastic, and not often seen in cartoons, at least in the west.
All hail the mighty Bruce Timm and his team of miracle workers! If you liked JL and JLU, check out the old Batman cartoon from the 90's and the newer Batman Beyond. Even Superman TAS was pretty good. What's really great, though, is when you realize that they all fit together into one larger universe. When you start seeing events from one series effecting another series, that's pretty cool.
The Question was an awesome series. I have most of the issues in my basement... maybe its time to dig them out. I watched JLU over the holiday break and was blown away. I practically shit my pants laughing when Red Tornado was calling for Wonder Pig! The Amazo episode was absolutely awesome, possibly the best American half hour cartoon ever. But my favorite was the "homage" to the Challeneg of the SuperFriends. It was wonderful, and I was pleased to see those characters return for the season finale.
just a little fun fact: did you know the Flash is Lex Luthor from Smallville? Michael Rosenbaum, IIRC...
You know that had to be the entire reason they did the Luthor/Flash mind switch episode. XD (Flash as Luthor) "You gonna wash your hands?" "No, 'cuz I'm EEEEVIL!" "My fellow bad guys - I, Lex Luthor, your leader, will speak now about my, Lex Luthor's, plan. My villainous, villainous plan. Question the plan at your peril!......Uh, any questions?" (Luthor as Flash) "If nothing else, I can at least learn the Flash's secret identity... I have no idea who this is." And last but not least, one of the best Question quotes ever. "The tips at the end of shoelaces are called 'aglets'. Their true purpose is sinister."
Then in the JLU ep 'The Great Brain Robbery' Lex Luthor and Flash switch bodies so Michael Rosenbaum is playing Lex Luthor trapped in Flashes body, speaking like Luthor, but with the voice of the Flash. wrap your head around that one Ed
For the moment I think this thread was about the console game...which is abit disappointed because it sorts of forces the player to use certain characters. yeah, I got to agree with some of the comments posted...JLA is probably the best American animated series ever. I just find the ending battle between Darkseid and Supes a wee bit disappointing.
JL is definitely one of the best animated shows out there. There isn't a single episode that's bad. Very entertaining and sad that it's off the air. We need more shows like that.
