Has anyone else noticed Nautica is the same mold (but feminized) as that of Springer/Sandstorm from generations? Nautica by weremole on deviantART Its a bit different, using both Sandstorms and Springers molding but different vtol wings and a slimmer waist.
No she's not. There's really no similarities at all. Nothing on her resembles either of those two figures.
I don't care what altmode she has at this point, I just hope she's not going to become a random disposable character : (
Maybe the fans on the back are propellers for a submarine alt mode? I mean with the name Nautica, she's got to turn into a boat or a sub or something. Right?
That is definitely an interesting theory. I wouldn't mind a female triple changer from that mold. Howeven the black shiney areas on her chest look like windows for her altmode to me.
I'm still kind of miffed that we're 3 for 3 on fembots in IDW being the "metal bimbo" design aesthetic. God forbid they take a subtle or creative choice with the designs. Chromia is kind of locked in there, seing as she's always been that way, but Nautica's all new. They could've been way more unique. It almost looks like they were going to be, but then someone made her waist thinner than her head and her hips wider than her torso. Oh, uh... yeah, nothing like Springer or Sandstorm at all.
I'd laugh if her alt mode had nothing to do with water. " Nautica...you turn into a dumptruck...?" "Yep."
You've summed up my reasons for despising fembots. Before prime, and with the exception of Strika. They were either all doting mothers, school teachers or sex kittens. Blech. It won't happen so long as Roberts is involved, but eventually all those fembots are going to be someone's girlfriend.
Before Prime? While I generally share the sentiment, there's been PLENTY of great female characters. Blackarachnia in Beast Wars was awesome. Airazor was cool, as well. She wasn't SUPER TOUGH SUPER HARD or desperate for love. She was just like, say, Rattrap or Cheetor. (y'know, with a sense of restraint and a brain respectively) Arcee in Animated wasn't much to write home about, but she was also an infrequent character. And she was only a teacher in the past. She was, at 'modern' time, a military intel officer. Blackarachnia in Animated was very well-rounded, as well. Hell, even Energon Arcee was tough and independant. Meanwhile in Prime we got bi-polar Arcee who's defining characteristic was that she's been in many "close relationships" with "partners" and Airachnid who's a lazy seductress/psychopath. Prime is the WORST defense for your arguement. This is truthfully my biggest concern. No, I do not have a problem with female Transformers in relationships. As I said, Blackarachnia and Airazor were both in relationships and they were both awesome. The fact that both females ended up in couples in Beast Wars happened naturally, not planned from the beginning. I just don't want every single one of IDW's fem-bots to be one half of a couple. That's what really burned me about fembots in G1. Every one of them had a boyfriend before they had any personality. They were additions, existing merely to latch onto a man, and it was awful.
I highly doubt that many of the fembots will be relegated to being "the girlfriend". Roberts and Scott seem a bit more... progressive?... than to do that. And I REALLY like Nautica's design. Yeah it does kinda have the "supermodel" thing going on, I won't deny. Would be nice to see some fembots that aren't like that, but... hey, baby steps, I guess.
Keep in mind that this isn't Milne, Roche or Griffith's art - she may look a bit different once the "main" artists return.
Though I feel like for the sake of consistency she won't be drawn "that" far off. I'm not that big a fan of the supermodel design either, but since it's the norm for most comics, it really comes down to just sticking to the norm or doing the right thing and surpassing it. Like Mecha said, baby steps.
I like Nautica's design, and I have yet to see any complaints from any female transformer fans about it beyond "Why isn't there a toy?"
