I get where you're coming from, especially with all the problems there are trying to get your hands on TRU MP release, but how could you say that before you see it? I honestly hope that they surprise us with some extras.

Personally I can't stand the majority of TF toys. From my point of view, the majority of TF toys look incredibly cheap and I wouldn't want them cluttering my shelf. I would rather pay $60 for one MP car than use that same amount of cash to buy several mainline figures that I quickly grow tired of. Right now, MP figures are pretty much the only Transformers I would even consider purchasing at this point.

 

TRU MP releases make me cringe.

This. For $65-$80 you can secure a Takara MP autobot from Japan/ Asia without having to constantly monitor a website or check TRU on delivery days and hope you beat the scalpers. The 10-15 extra bucks I'd spend to buy an imported figure is well worth the piece of mind of avoiding the TRU MP debacles.

 

Well they did surprise me with MP-10 Prime, but I don' know how they can "upgrade" MP Prowl. And the TRU exclusives are not available in Québec due to the English only packaging.

 

They'll probably include an amazon jp exclusive shoulder cannon.

 

Oh I definitely agree, it's just the need of some to talk-up the new MPs as the pinnacle of Transformers and something never before seen since the early G1 days that is ridiculous. It completely ignores the high-quality, high-engineering of several lines that shared the same marks, while also ignoring where MPs (the cars) do skimp.

 

Ok so here is my theory.

In actuality the listings are for 2 packs, but they only bothered to put the "1st" figures name as the listing name.

So its actually Sideswipe & Smokescreen and Prowl & Red Alert. Then the SDCC exclusive will be either Tigertracks or G2 Swipe & Bluestreak.

Although I am pretty sure I am wrong, I kinda wish I wasn't. XD

 

Really hoping for a Blue Bluestreak repaint out of all this. I know he's the same character, but I'd put both versions on my mp shelf. I'll pick up Prowl if I ever see him, but I have the Takara version for now. And he's gorgeous

Never saw, saw once, never saw, saw once when they magically appeared on clearance, never saw. Gee, that was sooooo difficult to figure out. For extra credit, never saw MP1, saw Starscream once, saw Hotrod once by accident months after he was supposed to be gone. I have a buddy who works for TRU and even he doesn't see this stuff any more than I do.

Try to follow along because I'm only going to tell you this one more time. The majority of TRU releases have been clusterfucks for many. Therefore, it is reasonable to presume that future TRU releases will also be clusterfucks. Man, it's like you touch every hot stove, get in every windowless van, and jump off every bridge in the hope that the next leap will be the leap home.

Meanwhile I get to sit here at a computer and order 1, 2, or 20 Takara MPs with no problems whatsoever. No fighting neckbeard "businessmen," no Walmart gorilla damage, no 6-24 months of maybes. Just the toys I want when and how I want them and big deal if there's a small premium for that service. So, yeah, I know exactly what I'm talking about, thanks. It's the white-knight holier-than-thou lets-give-them-more-chances-than-a-battered-housewife act that really gets old.

 

It's actually the assumption that what you experience is what I experience shtick that gets old.

That's what you typed. I assumed that you read my post, and were disagreeing with what I actually said. I said nothing about the ease of obtaining them, how TRU might screw up the distribution, how you'll have to fight with "neckbeards" to get them, how you shouldn't buy from Takara, etc. Basically, everything you mention in this post, I didn't mention in mine. You're arguing with me about something I never said.

Indeed. The TRU here in town had a small army Thundercrackers guarding the TF isle all the way up to SW and Acid Storm's release. Now we have a small army of Acid Storms guarding the isle instead.

Dunno what happened to the TCs.

Hey, this is all speculation. Once we have a finished figure from Hasbro, and a defined price (official) everything here is subject to debate.

What if the Hasbro figure looks like the toy? (paint in place of stickers on the G1)

I for one have the TT version, got it at a good price and am happy... i am interested in the hasbro one, and while the price does seem steep, I will judge when i actually see it.

 

They sold because compared to Acid Storm, who no one has ever heard of or remembers, he's a gem.

Real shocking that Soundwave was gone fast and Acid Rain is still sitting there. Anyone else see that coming? If it is that obvious, it can be avoided.

I think the problem some of us have with Hasbro is they can't seem to just let the MP be the MP sometimes. Optimus and Soundwave were better releases, but Thundercracker and Acid Rain weren't the best and were in line with some of the earlier ones. Let's take a look:

MP-1: horrible battle damage paint scheme and trimmed smokestacks.
MP-3 Starscream: dirt on the jet, white for no apparent reason
MP-6 Skywarp: no major issues, not quite coherent scheme though (see feet)
MP-8: random added paint apps but overall great release
MP-9: Serious lack of paint detail, some strange color decisions
MP-10: great release
MP-11: Thundercracker: random pop-culturish fad tatoos
MP-11: Acid Rain: who? oh, him. wait, that doesn't look like him from his one real appearance ever...
MP-13, 15, 16: great release

So it has been a mixed bag. The bad part is their handling of this line hasn't been the usual cost cutting issues except with maybe Hot Rod, but rather they have been "creativity" issues. So you really don't know what to expect with Prowl but I'd say there is a 50% chance they might do something to ruin it in a lot of people's eyes.

And yes, there is a very good chance if he is done very well there won't be enough to meet demand.

 

He won't be scalped right away, but when the takara supply dwindles over the course of the year, it will be. Also, some people (not me thankfully) collect both the hasbro and takara versions of every MP.

 

In defense of Takara, if they make a toy Hasbro hasn't made, I buy it because not all of their toys they make get a Hasbro version. They have yet to release Sideswipe and he came out before Prowl
