Um the podcast completely stopped working at about the 10 minute or so mark.

    was listening to the mp3.

had to refresh and replay it a few times. it seems to be playing okay now. it's possible it just wasn't loading right. ;)

Huh, I just bought Bad Cop's Pursuit and Metalbeard's duel. Great timing, I'm gonna listen while I build them.

Oh geez, I hope we don't get a Batman-esque movie reboot in the near future.
Critically successful as it maybe, but that's definitely not the tone I want in mainstream Transformers.

I get the point you guys were making, but I think I'd prefer a slightly lighter version of what Marvel has been doing.

I'm assuming that's what the subtitles sound like.

They weren't talking tone. They were talking recovering from a horrible directorial choice and an overall bomb of a movie into becoming something grand.

Yeah I get that, but it also made me think of what a Transformers movie in the style of the Nolan Batman movies would be like. I was not a fan... of what my own mind imagined.

I've had my Waspinator crack at a armpit joint. Another factor that I think might lead to it is how you pull/push on the arms to shut/split the wasp head. That and flipping the arms out stresses that pin joint. What makes me think the dark green is probably somewhat the weaker plastic on it is because there's stress marks on the ball sockets for the elbows also. That's the only other area on mine with stress marks, but I don't think those'll be an issue.

Edit: Oh, and I've transformed it about four times.

Oh wow. Metalbeard. Guess I'll go ahead and assemble that set while I listen. Glad other people in this community noticed the steampunk/ retro lego pirate re-imagination of the piece.

    ---
finished building it just before Off topic what we got this week.

I've got five of these lego movie sets now. Including cloud cukoo land and the bad cop set. Just be prepared to have a bunch of emmets and Wild Style when its all said and done.

January toy collecting is looking pretty lego heavy.

Super-fun update: Omegus's Waspinator apparently cracked like, literally the next time he transformed it after this recording.

Uggg. First I'll back up a bit and say Aaron hit the nail on the head regarding the Transformers films.
As for this comment? Sorry dude, I don't think you're all that on target. A "horrible directorial choice"? The films have made over $200 billion (and that's only taking ticket sales into account, toy and DVD/Blu-Ray sales would push that number up even more). Money that has gone into the brand to produce fan favourite series like Animated, award winning series like Prime, a deluge of fantastic toys, and some of the best stories we've seen for this franchise in comic form. You can't undersell the financial boon the movie series has been to the franchise.
That doesn't even begin to account for the fact that the films have made our little hobby here mainstream. It's brought more people into the fandom, some of whom will likely stick around like the rest of us have.

The only way the directorial and creative choices behind the films could be considered disastrous are from a critical standpoint. Which is entirely subjective. Sure, some people hate the films. Others enjoy them as brainless but fun popcorn flicks. Others like them despite their flaws and find ways to enjoy those flaws. Myself? They're fun but dumb popcorn films that mean more to me then they otherwise would because they play the nostalgia card with a franchise I've always enjoyed just enough for me to look over some of the more serious faults.

My problem with this attitude (and the question that spawned this discussion) is that it implies that the film series has been a disaster. Realistically speaking, it hasn't been. It may not be your cup of tea, and I'm certainly not trying to tell you what you should or shouldn't like. I'm just saying that those of you who swear up and down that these movies have been a disaster for the franchise should re-examine your position and at the very least acknowledge the good the series has done for this franchise. It far outweighs the bad when you get right down to it.

Anyway I love the Nolan Batman trilogy, but I don't think it would work for Transformers. The best Transformers fiction, in my opinion, is the fiction that doesn't take itself too seriously. All Hail Megatron, for example, left me kind of not caring while I can't put MTMTE down.
So when people say "oh one day we'll get a director who will do it right" I always kind of hope they don't mean someone who will try to pull a Nolan on the franchise. What worked wonders for Batman isn't what Transformers needs.

Star Wars was also a big hit in Japan back then, influencing almost every Sci-Fi anime and tokusatsu for many years.
