Have you seen how often people are calling for an upsized Grimlock in the Masterpiece Speculation thread? All the time. Add the rumoured up-sized MP08 Grimlock KO and I'm not sure I agree with your assertion that the market doesn't exist. Grimlock has been a historically popular, well selling character. We are nearly guaranteed to get another Grimlock eventually (the movie line this year) just as we are to see more Primes, Megatrons and Starscreams. He's one of the heavy hitters of the brand.

That is a subject of great debate. Many fans want a new upscaled Grimlock, to scale with the new MP-10 Optimus Prime and everything that followed it. Scale wise, it is short when displayed with the new MP. Furthermore, their are a shortcomings such as dino neck movement and none articulated hands, to just name a few, that fans want improved. You will see that many fans think that MP-08 is now showing it's age, and deserves an update.

Note: This wont be the opinion of all fans, but many. So some will want to just use MP-08, whilst some will want a new version. Same thing that happened with MP-03 Starscream and then MP-11 new version of it. And same thing as MP-01 and MP-10. Scale or needed update. Some will go for it, others wont.

I'm PERFECTLY happy with my Takara MP-8. The only reason why I'd consider buying FT's Slag is if it could match MP-8's look adequately.

MP-08 is gonna chill with my faith leader(or perhaps my orion...they are gonna fight it out for the title of prime), my custom jetfire (a 1:48 yamato repainted), and some of the better CHUGS on the shelf. I need an MP-10 scaled Grimlock to go with MP-10 scaled stuff like this scoria...and all those awesome MPs we have been getting and will get. Wheeljack is gonna look epic posed next to his creations (FT's versions) and the reality is we need a bigger grimlock...whether it be an upscaled KO that is rumored (who knows?), a new TT version (they might right?) or if FT decides that a TT version isn't imminent and makes ones of their own.

as far as a toy deco for scoria...it'd be awesome if the head was gold chrome with clear plastic over it like the g1 toy. that'd make it totally worth buying a 2nd version of and it'd fit with hastak's grimlock's alt mode's neck (not to mention bot mode chest but slag never had the clear plastic over gold chrome look in his bot mode anyway).

All good points. But, the most important thing either Takara or FT should take from deciding on making a new Masterpiece Grimlock is that if it's a great figure that scales well it will sell. MP10 is the perfect example. Fans kept saying that MP-01 was a great figure, and people didn't need a new Optimus. Then MP-10 came out, and it quickly sold out. Grimlock is a popular character, so if it's good, everyone will buy it.
As for Scoria, already pre-ordered! It looks awesome!

At this point, I think I'm in FT's camp enough that I'd choose an FT Grimlock over an updated TT Grimlock. The heavy feel of FT's figures is perfect for a Dinobot IMO. I think a TT Grimlock might feel oddly light compared to FT's skull-busting figures.

Moi as well, last time I made a comment about how FT will make something that's going to be so much better than MP 08 and all people could say was make it taller and sturdier. I mean having those things is good but "SO MUCH BETTER" it is not. I am perfectly happy with FT's solution and will not buy an updated FT Grimlock.

That's what I'm hoping for as well. Love the dark clear plastic over gold chrome parts on the G1 toys and on MP Grimlock. Looks so much better to me than the bland yellow parts the cartoon had.

I would buy pretty much buy any Masterpiece scale Grimlock out there, whether its FT, TT, KO or whatever. But #1 would be FT Grimlock because I want it to match the set.

That's not surprising given your name, avatar, and location!

I'm hoping this oversized KO comes to fruition as I dont think FT will be making a version.

Yeah that would be neat, it does look classy on MP-08. But the Scoria prototype doesn't seem to suggest it. Gold chrome that matches MP-08's chest is the next best thing, but I hope they consider the clear thing again for Sludge's neck.

I suppose since gold and clear/gold were both depicted as yellow on the toon, technically it doesn't matter whether those yellow areas are either gold chrome or clear plastic over gold chrome on the MPs. As long as the result looks good :thumb

LOL, hah, didn't notice that, even the location!!!

Anyways, it's sad day when one, myself, has to look forward for the summer to come by and finish, and maybe even fall to start, to finally get his FT-04 Toy scheme!!!! I mean I live in the Canada, where we really love summers, and I got to be that idiot that wants it to come and go!!!! Sheeesh, what have I become!!!

That wouldn't mater. Lot's of people have imported Takara's MP-08 same as MP-05. All Fan Toys project's are imports to the US no mater where the company is based out of. However, to answer the question directly I believe they are based out of China/HK.

I know importing is fine but if classed as an American company then they have to meet the toy safety regulations where imports don't.

Yea have to meet all the toy safety regs. Stop them getting sued also lol

Nah, I understood the points in the main body of your post I just didn't think they warranted a reply. First of all you think that FT can't make Grimlock because it would look too much like MP-08. Well, infringement doesn't matter to 3P's as they are infringing on TT's TM's just making these characters. If you think that the up-sized KO will have the same quality as a FT version of Grimlock I think you are mistaken as well. It would be a poor substitute. If you think people aren't going to buy a bigger version of Grimlock by FT or TT then I would point out the numerous versions of Prime, Megatron, Starscream and yes Grimlock that continue to be released year after year.

Now, none of that really mattered as it's all opinion and lacking in any sort of factual basis which is why I ignored it in the first place. What matters, and where you are absolutely factually correct, is where you ask FT to please make the other Dinobots before Grimlock which they have announced as their intentions on this very thread! Yay, success!
