Oh yeah, that too. Just like what happened with Generations Metroplex, whoever keeps telling us 'he looks exactly like ...' needs new glasses. :thumbdown

Generations Metroplex is still a good toy but yeah it's not that game accurate.

I feel like the only one who can't stand some of the colours on these voyagers. First Blitzwing's helmet being a bright yellow that looks absolutely atrocious, now these bright green rotors on Whirl. Deal breakers for both, I'm afraid.

The one legitimate(I think) gripe I have with this version of Whirl is his helcopter blades. They are configured in a very "toy" aesthetic, with one blade stacked on top of the other one. Before you say "that's the way all Transformers helecopters are, due to having to transform", I would like to point out that Springer got it right. And if they had implemented a "blades become a sword", then the IDW fanboys might have been a little more placated.

That all being said, I'll still get him, because other than that one gripe, he looks awesome.

Don't worry, his rotors probably won't be green. The greenish tint on the image is likely caused from converting the image from a different (print-based?) color profile. It actually happens quite often, many of the official images come off looking much greener.

I'm not saying he isn't :)  but I'm a big fan of his FOC design, and the Generations figure comes nowhere near close to catching that look. It's probably nonsense to others (hey, we got a Metroplex, which is cool either way!) but kind of a dealbreaker for me. :)

though i like the idea of whirl just randomly having a sword i think that would actually turn off both idw and marvel/g1 toy fans alike, and why are some people trying to make this a g1 fans vs idw fans thing? from reading this thread it seems most idw fans are saying while they would have preferred a more comic design they are more than happy to just have a whirl and others love his very g1 toy-esque design. is this a thing? has this been a thing?

I don't think us IDW fans would complain about giving Whirl a sword, he was wielding the Great Sword just not long ago in the battle with the Legislators I think it would've been a damn fine gimmick.

Just the typical "not muh geewunn how dare you like it!" thing. I mean most of the comic fans seem to be "yeah this isn't what I was hoping for, but I'll still get it because Whirl" while the other party is "YEAH G1 DESIGN WOOOOOOO FUCK YOU COMIC FANS!!!!!!"

And then the comic fans are the badguys in people eyes? I don't get it either.

    Reading this thread........sigh.

I don't need an excuse or permission not to like this.

I don't like the aesthetics at all (and never did like the G1 toy either) but have no fear Fanbois, I'm glad you're getting one and ...it just means one more on the shelves for you.

With that we return you to your usual fear and loathing on all sides.

Any information on approximately when to expect this wave of toys to hit the shelves?

How many times haven't people raged that more toys aren't the superior comic-designs, or bragged that those are now getting toys instead of outdated G1 designs?

It's also not trying to be.

Like nearly every Generations figure, it is a brand-new design based off a past version, in his case G1.

Yeah, I don't get that. Blitzwing has ALWAYS had a bright yellow helmet on both his original toy and cartoon model. That's like saying Prime's helmet shouldn't be blue.

    That'd be an awesome idea.

It really is confusing. Because some people want a more modern interpretation? Calling anyone "fanboys" is just insulting and needlessly demeaning. It's especially odd in Whirl's case, a character who's had little impact before IDW. Funny how there doesn't seem to be a huge ton of G1 Whirl fans until a new version gains a following.

The reason I dislike it is simply that the helicopter doesn't look like a helicopter. Or even vaguely helicopter-like.

The robot's mode crotch sitting under the cockpit is really unmistakable as anything else.

I'm REALLY hoping that it's mistransformed in the picture, and there's a way to push the legs in further in alt mode.
I'm also pretty sure the color's off in the photo, and that the rotors are actually yellow, as they were on the G1 toy. If they're actually green...well then it's time to warm up some dye...

To those who replied to my earlier comment, I dislike the colour of the helmet in his fiction appearances as well. I just don't understand why his whole scheme is tan and purple, then his helmet is bright yellow. It just doesn't look appealing in the slightest.

It was, at the time, one of the more "odd" color choices. NOTHING else on him was yellow except that helmet!
