Fact: Animated Grimlock didn't have a faceplate.

    It can be done.

All that needs to be said. If Grimlock doesn't have a mouthplate, he ain't Grimlock. Cause that's always somethin' Grimlock's had (save for Animated) besides a bad attitude. And the movies IMO is not the universe to start a new trend.

I don't mind if he has a mouthplate that retracts - but I'd prefer if he kept the mouthplate for 99% of the time and for the toy.

Wow! After 7 years & 3 movies you guys are still trying to link/connect G1 to the movies? When are you going to give it up? There is no G1 in the movies! Except for the names there never has been & never will be. The robot named Jazz has absolutely nothing to do with G1 Jazz. The Robot named Megatron has absolutely nothing to do with G1 Megatron. Forget about "thick skulls", we're dealing with solid bone here!

Stop linking everything in the Transformers franchise/universe to G1. It's ridiculous! Why can't you just let go of G1 & move on? G1 will always be there, the fond memories, the nostalgia, it's not going anywhere. But we don't have to keep repeating the same thing over & over again.

Not to take either side - but this isn't G1 Vs Bayverse. The Bayverse incorporates elements of G1 - and by distinction since G1 started everything - unless they invent entirely new characters then it will be taking events from G1.

As for other things - ROTF and DOTM have all been based on a collection of G1 storylines and the same writer is back for TF:AOE. So TF:AOE will likely have G1 refrences and a plot based on the G1 series - likely 'Dinobot island' based in the city...

    It's not G1, it's Transformers as a whole.

And honestly, of all the continuities, Bayverse is one of the most G1 inspired Transformers franchise. It's not about them not embracing G1, it's about them continuously misunderstanding the brand as a whole.

Wanting Grimlock to lose his faceplate is like wanting to put a faceplate on the statue of liberty. doesn't belong. Although I have a feeling Grimmy is going to have a monstrous alien mouth.

how about going with the Evangelion's Eva units-like route design for Grimmy's mouth? when in his normal mode also while talking he does not appear to have a visible mouth save for his mouth plate moving like some versions of Optimus have such as G1 & then in his beserk mode his mouth plate suddenly opens up like giant lips revealing rows of teeth with his steaming breath coming out or even spitting fire

It shows the Deceptiscons eating in the movies, so maybe he will be.

I'm expecting he will have some kind of hagfish/leech/lamprey type mouth with red pulsing lights inside.

Wow, and all this time I thought in order to be Grimlock he had to be a take no shit from nobody badass who turns into a T-Rex. Turns out it was all the mouthplate.

If all it takes to be Grimlock is a mouthplate, does this mean Optimus is actually Grimlock? That may explain a few things in the movieverse actually.

If grimlock is to speak then he will have a mouth and not a mouth plate as it would sound muffled a bit like bane in batman. it maybe a case like optimus the mouth plate goes across the mouth in battle.

lol that was funny. and your right , it would take something crazy like that to explain some of the stuff in these movies. but yea its not just the mouth plate that define's him but we would love for him to have one. and what color scheme you think bay is going to give him?

    Well, he lost the mouthplate.

But there is a curious visual distinction in place: Grimmy is the only one WITHOUT the mouthplate while all his team members have one.

Anyway, he still looks great. Him Grimlock need no mouthplate, him Grimlock KING!

No faceplate for Grim's is a lot like not having one for Optimus... Dumb and looks ridiculous! Keep the faceplate!

Grimmy definitely still has a face plate. In fact, all of the Dinobots do, along with visors.

Biting your enemies with humanoid jaws and biting them with big dinosaur jaws gives you very different results.

This reminds me of somethig someone said in the toys thread, all the dinobots heads except for Grimlock look very generic/simple and they dont have the movie aesthetic, could this mean that except for Grimlock they are not going to have robot modes and they created those simple heads just for the toys?
