Is it hard to believe? You remember the whole "Spastic" thing that just happened right?

We Americans aren't very quick to look up other dialects of English.

Is there a specific reason you're only buying/reading the MTMTE issues, like wanting to collect all consecutive issues without gaps or something?

Because the 'RID' and 'MTMTE' titles are completely meaningless during Dark Cybertron. Both are the exact same book with more or less the same mix of RID/MTMTE - you're practically reading a book and skipping every other chapter.

I agree though, the RID bits are still dull and uneventful (although I've yet to read this issue).

Um, "GB" didn't misuse the name after the Transformer. 'Slag' was an insult years before TF.

    Yeah, this.

Yes, we are sure. And as I think somebody else says, "slag" as originally used was neither a transformer or a girl with questionable morals :thumb

Well, a vocal minority for sure, but often this sort of thing is big corporations like Hasbro ANTICIPATING complaints and launching pre-emptive action, rather than ACTUAL complaints.

True, we are not. I know it from my family it is insult because of my English side of the family. In some cases my member of family consider it rude. I really have not inclination to find out why it is rude.

However the titles are meaningless just chapter in one comic book. Whoever said that is correct.

Not bad, the artwork is a bit confusing but I can forgive it since it's better than what I could ever do. The name-change was pretty damn cleaver I'll admit lol

No. What was with that word? I know it mainly in context of muscles, disabled people and if someone acts stupid.

Welcome to the club. I noticed there might be a new issue when I read about someone being torn apart...

To briefly sum up the issue with the term spastic it was basically turned around from being a descriptive term for a disability to a playground level abusive insult. This reached such an extreme level in the UK at least that the charity called 'The Spastics Society' had to change their name to 'Scope'. Basically over here where nobody would generally flip out over the term being used, it would be in INCREDIBLY bad taste to do so. However, if you described a strangers child who was acting up as 'spastic' you would probably have the shit kicked out of you by everyone in the general vicinity.

Slag is not so much an offensive term as a crude one. It would be seen as inappropriate for a child's toy to be called Slag here, and is actually hilarious that he was released in the UK back then with no changes but Swoop was skipped over for release.

On another note, I find it amazing that people are deciding to complain about the Dinobot designs used in IDW now, when they've been using them since 2006. It's a bit late to start taking issue with them.

Welp if you missed the whole thing, scubaboy above me explained how offensive it is in the UK (which I hadn't known before). Where Hasbro comes in is, they named their Drag Strip homage in the PCC line "Spastic," and a couple raised eyebrows on toy sites turned into a minor media frenzy in the UK before the toy was even widely released.

Hasbro slapped stickers with the name "Over-Run" on the rest of their "Spastic" supply in all markets. (Naturally, some Americans on this site then complained about "political correctness" cause that's a horrible thing people do.) Total snafu on their part cause it's actually really trivial to see what words in your own language are used in other countries to insult mentally disabled children, prostitutes, etc. Google has totally already been invented.

EDIT: It doesn't only run in one direction, either, the Pokemon Jynx had to get a redesign in the early '90s because Japan isn't quite attuned to the horrible history of race relations in North America and mistakenly produced a creature that looked just like a blackface caricature.

Funny, I always figured the Dinobot picked the name because it was a curse. In the sense it was used in BW. The sense it's used in the UK would be a completly forign concept to a transformer. Also funny, is I've heard slug used as an insult much more than slag in my life.

Sometimes it does feel to me like they don't do enough with transformation in these books, having characters walking when they should be rolling. But the group running from the metrotitan is justified. Several are injured, and the remainder are either carrying the injured, something they can't do in their alt-modes, or have alt modes that might not be that fast.

Really hope the Cons have Tryptecon stashed somewhere.

Since the Dinobots are already on Cybertron, when will Grimlock show up?

This crossover needs the Old Yeller treatment. I´m not hating it, but I can´t wait for the goddamn Dark Cybertron saga to end. Shit like Blackest Night left me with a bad taste regarding crossovers and this thing is another nail in that coffin.
