You're basing that on what exactly? A shot of him in robot-mode, with the beast head most obscured?

Do you seriously think Hasbro would make his rat head abnormally large on his beast mode? In beast mode, the rat head will be perfectly to scale with the rest of his body. It might look a little large in his robot-mode unfortunately, but again, it's a compromise in the design process.

Wait, like the guy who did the He-Man comics way back when the last cartoon was out? He's a designer now? Cool.

The fact that I know what a rat looks like, and those aren't rat ears or a rat nose?

Jesus H. Christ are we doing this again? Post-perv the thread. I gave several good reasons why the head on the chest is off. I'm not doin' it again.

Would you rather him have a fake chest the made him better look like his animation model?

Because I can't see this issue being solved without his toy being made bigger or that happening.

Figure looks pretty close-to-accurate for me. Come on guys, you really need modern-era figures to be 110% perfect to something once CGI-animated?

And I'm outlining reasons why it's an unavoidable design compromise.

Look at the rear of the new Rattrap toy, behind his abdomen. The back third of the beast mode is folded up inside. This means the rat body will be roughly (from nose tip to base of the tail) the same height at the standing robot. That's a big rat, and a big rat has a big head.

    If you compare this picture:
To the picture of the new toy, the ears are pretty darn close.

But next people will be complaining that the toy doesn't have whiskers. Whiskers that magically vanish when he transforms into robot mode, because this is 2014 and such things should be possible. Because if we can't make this happen:
The Hasbro designers apparently aren't working hard enough.

But just watch that little gif very closely. Not only does the back kibble shrink to half it's original size, about 3 seconds in the beast head changes completely.

    Some things are impossible.

But have you considered that the 'apparent' over-sized rat head in robot-mode isn't a homage to the CGI model but to the original toy? Rattrap's entire front was his rat head.

This new toy is certainly an example of life -imitating art - imitating life. The original Rattrap toy has cogs on his shoulders to enable his spring-loaded transformation. Those cogs ended up in the CGI model. And now, in the new toy, those cogs are referenced again in the shoulders. They probably serve absolutely no purpose, but the molding is there nonetheless.

Really loving these BW updates. Hope they continue on with the same designer, because even putting aside my BW love, these are some of the nicest Transformers that Hasbro has produced in a few years now. I don't mind the tweaks at all, because the overall figure is just so cool.

As far as updating goes, one thing I've always wanted to see is a BW Megatron that doesn't have a T-Rex head for a hand, or at the very least doesn't HAVE to. It's still one of the lamest design decisions of that era, in my opinion. :)

The other unpopular opinion I have is that Dinobot's spinning tail-sword was and is totally stupid looking. :)

Hopefully this means a new Beast Wars series could be coming soon (probably not likely but I'm still pretty hopeful)

I wonder which character will be next, Cheetor, Terrorsaur or Tarantulus?

Given the recent induction of beast wars megs into the transformers HOF, my guess is that we may see a new mold of him at some point

Beast Wars doesn't have to work like G1. By that I mean that when a new G1-esque line is rolled out (TF: Prime, Movie-verse, Animated etc etc) the first figures to show up are the respective leaders -- Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Hasbro have avoided the temptation thus far to roll out Optimus Primal and Megatron as the first of these new BW homages, instead choosing to focus on the non-leaders in the crew -- and I think that's fantastic! It just shows the popularity of said characters.

And given the fact that the 10th Anniversary repaints (with the resculpted heads) of Primal and Megatron are top-notch, I don't think we'll see a new Primal and Megatron for a long time, and I'm perfectly ok with that.
