I don't use it often, and it seems like a haven for deadbeats or scammers... I'm selling some odds and ends... and I get this message:

    Scam?

Sounds like it. I've sold on Craigslist before, and even despite me saying I do not accept checks in any form, I still get dumbasses sending me similar messages to the one you received.

You figure that the person would type in their name instead of "God bless". I'll "wait" until the person gets back from town.

That is totally a scam. You will get a fake check in the mail. Have fun with it though, lead the scumbag on and make them jump through hoops.

I agree, see how much of his sensitive personal information you can get from him instead.

Looks like a total scam that person is trying to pull on you. "I will send you a check and schedule arrangement for a pickup then." That throws red flags in my mind. Also, by using the word advert is not normally used in the states very often as far as I know.

I used to sell refurbished bicycles on CL. Once I answered one of these scammers with:
Sure I'll accept your bank check just send me $100 US cash in the mail to let me know your serious about going through with the transaction." Turned the tables on 'em.

This! I had a collection of about 4 or 5 cheques one a few years ago. It was fun messing with them and making them resend the cheques when "I didn't receive them".

    Embrace the scam.

I list rental houses and sell a lot of planters on Craigslist, and you quickly start noticing which people are scammers, and which are legit. Some scammers are just trying to put you on an email list and will reply in general form (prettymuch): "Nice item, is it still available, thanks". Fell for this once, now I just delete them.

The rental ones can get a little more complex. I have gotten people who want me to sign for furniture (not sure what that scam is), or people who ask general questions, and for more pictures. This is followed by them asking for a fax copy of the rental agreement and credit check (as they are just moving out here). Asked a cop friend about these (because they are quite frequent, and I found it strange since I take good pictures). He said this is quite common, and they relist your rental, take deposits from people, get all their information, and give them the address.

Either that, or I get sent porn, which isn't the worst thing in the world.

(Off topic), But what amazes me, is with my planters I offer "free local delivery in the south sound (specific cities) area", and you wouldn't believe how many people think that two hours away would be considered local. Sucks to turn down business, but I am not driving almost all the way to Canada and back for a couple hundred dollars (before gas).

I bought a bedazzled wallet once on Craiglist, still my go-to wallet (I have a few).

One's made of actual cow's hide, so it's like having a wallet made of grade A beef. How much more manly can you get?
