The Wreckers - ugly vehicles modes, which translated to ugly robot modes too. I cannot stand the clutter of sponsor decals, oversized engines, body spoilers, etc. For me, a car shouldn't look like that. And the Dreads - too organic and beastlike for my liking. Reminded me of Orcs from Lord of the Rings.
I agree with your opinion on the Fallen to a degree. I like his design overall, but yes, some areas such as his hips and upper arms are way too skinny.
I thought the Wreckers were ok but it would have made more sense if there was an actual Nascar race scene. The dreads were cool but I'm getting sick of the Decepticons looking like evil beasts (hunched, sharp claws, sharp teeth, jagged edges) and the Autobots looking heroic. They don't even look like the are the same species.
I don't like the Dread characters from DOTM. It's like those characters embody every nagging criticism fans had about the movie designs in general made real.
If there were any designs I did not like it would probably be Arcee triplets, Wheelie, Brains, and probably Devastator and Que. Although, I really like Que's action figure.
The Wreckers also seem kind of insulting to the stuff we had to endure with we can't do this or that because it's not "realist" enough. But when NASCAR was willing to help sponsor the film all of a sudden those rules about "realist" got thrown out the window.
Yeah, my sentiments exactly. I understand they need to make the bad guys look evil, but there are ways to do that without making them beastlike. For me, the TF1 and RoTF's Decepticon designs were superb. They looked evil, alien and like what a Transformer should. You could tell Brawl, Blackout, Bonecrusher, Barricade, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Demolishor, Scrapper, and Sideways were all the bad guys, even though they did not look like organic monsters.
Optimus and Bee in AOE, they both look so brutal and agressive, they've lost their kindly look in the previous films
I enjoyed most of what I saw, except for the following: Starscream had an overall great design, but for the face. I think the bird face, with that beak-like mouth and the rooster crest, may have been too much; I’m thankful it didn’t go to Megatron as was originally planned. Mixmaster’s cement truck mode meant that most of the limbs are inside the drum. But with a cement mixer truck as an alternate mode, there was little else that could be done. Soundwave as a car. From the toy design and his onscreen design, his legs looked spindly and unable to carry his upper torso. Laserbeak has dual rotors added on. All that could serve is for hovering, otherwise it looked over-the-top. Devcon is some sort of praying mantis-gorilla hybrid with treads for mandibles and piercings/chains. A toy would have helped, but it was probably too impossible to work out.
I do think Mixmaster's mode was quite ingenious. It evoked a warrior with shields, and in some ways, resembled a ladybug with its wings open.
I hated the twins and devestator the most. Dino was a worthless bot (he had a great design but he didn't get any screen time) Same goes for Que (he wasn't as worthless as Dino in my opinion) but I feel that Que was made only to tug on peoples heart strings. His figure is pretty awesome, one of my favorite DOTM figures. His design also grew on me so I don't hate him or anything, I just wish he had more screen time Bumblebee was super annoying in all the movies (he hogged all the screen time) and I hated the pacifier he had in his mouth
Well, how many Decepticons WERE doing the snarly monster job? Only the Dreads and Laserbeak. Laserbeak was excused because he's a bird thingy.
