Dunno, that mission where you're playing as the drug induced bad guy going around slashing all the armed army men to death while seeing visions of his sister seems like they just went "Fuck it, let's make this as ludicrous as possible!"
While I was ripping on guns in Ghosts, I also notice that the Ameli doesn't sound like it shoots 800 rounds per minute like the real deal. The ROF on the actual Ameli LMG can top out at 1200 rounds per minute, much like the MG42. Anyways, I had a thought...what's with guys named Rourke being bad guys in movies and video games? It's like if you're named that you're destined to be a baddie.
Pretty sure IW and Treyarch use very little of the real life statistics of the guns they include in the game, and mess with the details like ROF, damage, range, etc to fit the "role" they want a given gun to fill. Battlefield does try to keep as close to the real deal and while I love it for doing it, it does kind of make a lot of the guns feel "samey" after a while.
The reality is that guns are pretty much the same, which doesn't really do well for a game. I'm fully aware that CoD isn't going for realism...doesn't mean I can't poke fun at it! Pretty much the only difference between say...a gas piston driven, German designed G36, and a gas impinged, American designed M4A1 is that the German rifle is less susceptible to malfunction when dirty, and the American rifle has less felt recoil due to the buffer spring. Other than that they fire the same bullets out of the same length barrels, with similar accuracy and ranges. If I really wanted to rag on it, then I'd say with the exception of the underwater rifle and the Honey Badger, ALL of the Assault Rifles, the Micro Tavor X95(MTARX in the game), and ALL of the LMGs should be doing the exact same damage since they're all 5.56x45mm platforms! I don't actually hate how guns are portrayed in games. Rather the opposite. I'm pretty fascinated by it. Though it did leave me with a lot of misconceptions and bad habits when I took up real guns...
This is the first game where IW has drastically improved the HUD since MW2. I liked how I could get extra points in MW2 just by dying 3 times in a row and then killing the last person who killed me. It helps close the rank gap for those who play COD a lot.
Personally, the worst part of the online for me is the Krypto Dogs, how many times do I have to put a FULL clip of Marksman Rifle ammo into a dogs face for it to die? They need to dumb the dogs down in it, especially since it's such a low kill/pointstreak. Also, campers are popping up more often, but for the most part I'm having fun with this game(except for the hip fire challenges for gun camo). I love running around with the shotguns, so fun killing people.
FMJ mate, should be a staple. One to the face, two-three to the body with the AK-12. Can't believe how much I like that gun, usually my fave gun is one of the last to get.
AK-12 is fun on Extinction! I strongly dislike the inability to pause Extinction mode though...when you "pause" it, the aliens still attack you! I mean, come on...what if I gotta take a piss because I just chugged a Monster or Mountain Dew?!?
Pee into the the now empty can I get it online, but offline is...yeah, bit odd. It really throws me a bit. I just ignored the AK12 in extinction cos I figured, it's cheap so it's probably shit. Yet, here we are.
Only if you're online. But in a solo or split-screen match, you can pause it, and it actually pauses the game. But for Extinction? Not so.
So I bought this yesterday and finished the Campaign today...and I fucking loved it. It was so over the top and ridiculous that it was just plain awesome.
I don't like the direction the campaigns went with MW2 onwards, but I enjoyed Black Ops the most because the "STOP DA COMMIES" plot was so cheesy and ridiculous that it matched up with the campaign style nicely. The last mission where you dive into the seabase perfectly captures how it plays out like a bad 80's action movie. In contrast, I didn't really how Blops 2 tried to be super serious and deep with the whole "99 percent" and "MY DEAD SISTER BAWWWW" and "super hackers on steroids" themes.
My wife picked this up for me for Christmas on the PS3. Doubt I'll play the campaign at all since I barely touched the last 3 CoD's campaigns. Assuming some TDM rage will be spewing forth from me soon. Anyone that has it on the PS3 and likes TDM, hit me up. Especially if you're part of the old crew of CoD players I used to run with.
Not gonna play the campaign, huh? Well I sure hope you don't play on playing Extinction cause you gotta beat the campaign to unlock it!
I thought you needed to at least rank up to level 5 on mp to unlock it? I rented the game through redbox, which was only the mp disc at the time, and I unlocked Extinction.
Yep, unlocked for me at level 5 on Multiplayer. Thoughts on the game thus far: *Weapons seem to be decent, and just the right amount of potency when you get a hit. *Graphics (on the PS3 version at least) are boring and drab, almost washed out. Almost has a CoD4 feel to the Multiplayer maps, but just much larger. *I like the amount of steps, high spots, and broken down buildings you can go into. Unlike previous CoDs where you had only a couple of places you could go into on any given map, and few real sniper positions. *Latency is still a big issue. Already had a couple instances where I unloaded half a magazine on someone running at me, only to be knifed. Killcam doesn't show me firing a single shot. Still having fun, though. Haven't had an overwhelming urge to throw my controller across the room yet.
