I thought it was like a play on 'transition', changing from one state to another.

In the end though I think it's likely a mish-mash of all the suggestions we've come up with here.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought if it as a dual Megazord/ Transformers homage.

I hope this is one of Pixar's early-bird cameos, and it's a tiny little hint that they make a movie about mechas.

Yeah, that makes sense. The majority of all the toys ever are really more or less this. Woody and Jessie are standard 1950's style, Buzz is space/sci-fi, Rex can be a nod to the fact dinosaurs are always a popular kids toy, Carl is obviously GIJOE or standard action commando figures (although Buzz takes from that too with his Karate Chop action feature), etc.

Now that think about it, though, Toy Story is pretty heavily biased towards Mattel and not Hasbro, since unless I'm forgetting something the only actual brand-name toys in the film are from Mattel (with the original intro for Buzz having several toys outright state they're from Mattel)

I don't recall Pixar early bird cameos being that blatant. Usually they're easily missed, such as Finn McMissile as a poster in Andy's Room in TS3.

I would die happy if Pixar did a mecha film. All is forgiven since Cars 2.

Looks like the Japanese characters on the side of the 'legs vehicle' probably just says "Transitron" in Katakana. Can't quite make out all the characters, but that seems the most apparent. Not surprising or anything, but it woulda been cute if it read "Mecha Boy 4" or whatever, and Transitron was his 'western' name.

    Me too.

I want one too. Is there any chance that Thinkway Toys will make him?

I want one too, or any existing toy that looks like it. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Just had a friend who is fluent in katakana look at it, he confirmed it's "Transitron".

    Transition is Combattra!!

Yes this is definitely a homage to the Japanese style 70's robots such as Combattra (Combattler), Voltes V, Danguard Ace, Raideen basically Shogun Warriors ... Even the tank drill feet are the same as Combattra.
