The title is a bit of a lie at the moment, as this is a WIP and I haven't had him printed just yet, but he will be very soon. Currently I have the overall modeling of him done, I just need to go in and add all kinds of awesome details and things. Currently, he looks a bit bland haha.

I've got to shout out to Tom_Servo on this, as we've gone back and forth a bit as he's been designing some killer cassettes himself. Also, Insane Galvatron started a thread asking if there was a design out there for one, which also gave me the idea.

As for engineering, I hope it all turns out alright, since working on such a small scale can be difficult, but it should all work out and be high enough quality that I don't have to worry about anything breaking, because I really enjoy the clever transformation I've come up with, and I'd hate to start from nothing again.

Anyway, here it is, Stinger thus far. He has 8 moving legs, each with two joints, or.. three kinda. Moving pincers that open and close to an extent, with swivel joints and "elbows". And, of course, an articulated tail with 4 points of articulation. This has been built to fit cassett-bots universally, of course we won't find out until it gets printed, but I'm confident. The colors aren't final, and I'd love some tips on color, custom sticker design, and any other suggestions as well.

Anyway, thanks for taking a look and I hope you like it!

I am about 70% certain I want one of those, as long as the claws open and close when the time comes.

They open, but it's not the widest open ever, it's enough that he could hold something in his claw from the top, but due to some space restrictions I couldn't make it perfect :(  But if I can fix it I will, I'm still trying to work out some bugs.

Awesome! I gotta say I'm liking all the shapeways cassettes coming out recently and Stinger here is no exception. Though, I'm curious: did you get the idea of a scorpion cassette from the first draft of the '86 movie (which featured a scorpion cassette of the same name) or did you come up with this on your own?

Nope, the idea is from the draft. I figured we need a visual representation and a toy of it at some point, right? Some more details on him would've been nice, but hey, creative license... Glad you like it!

    Appreciate it!

I've been hoping/begging/praying that one of our talented Shapeways artists would eventually produce a model for the long ignored 86 Stinger. Kudos to you and Tom Servo for accepting the challenge. This is an outstanding design. I never dared to imagine that a cassette could feature 11(!!!) fully articulated limbs. Wow! Kudos to you for some top rate work. Now all I want to know is how do I get my money to you?

Really appreciate the kind words! Well, the plan is to test print, but not through Shapeways most likely, but rather a company member Bellpeppers uses. This company's prints are top notch and look like actual manufactured transformer parts, it's stunning. He's working on a FOC Starscream-to-Jetfire kit and I must say it's killer. Anyway, once I get it and test it out a bit I may upload it to shapeways and do a test print, just to see how it turns out from them. If it turns out well, and it probably will, I'll release it publicly and let you all have at it! I've also considered doing fully painted and stickered commissions, but we'll see what happens.

I would decide if you want this to look like an mp or g1. If g1, i wouldn't have made all of the limbs separate as the part count is very high. If mp, the detail is a little low.

It is very cool but as long as you are still in the design phase, it is riding a sort of odd middle ground as is.

Where does the tail go? It looks like it's right down the center in tape mode, but that doesn't leave any room for the scorpion's spine.

It does go down the center haha. Once you rotate it out, the two pieces that form the spine that have the legs attached to them slide closer together to fill the gap. It's a very different transformation.

this is awesome! the cassette mode looks a little hollow, though. personally, i'd be willing to sacrifice the multi-jointed legs in exchange for a more robust cassette mode - looks like it might be really fragile...

(also, will we get a Cubby the bear as well?)

Wow, we got a good bit of cassette love going on. Looks quite interesting and I love the color scheme you have chosen here.
