Ah goody, when I read that it's out for premium players and those who preordered I thought that was it for my chance to play before getting my own copy. I can happily wait two days.
This shits lame. Let's face it, there really shouldn't even be a current gen version of this game. Beta crashed twice in a hour session. Guns are weaker than BF3. Tons of annoying pop in glitches. A general sense of vast emptiness and just running around alone in the Conquest mode map. Clunky menus without the ability to customize your shit at the main menu so you have to do everything in game (that is when the spawn menu just doesn't up and disappear like it seems to do every match). Weird ass default controls. Movement is different and I can longer vault over the dumbest things like tables with ease as in BF3. Leaning is completely useless. Visuals actually look to be barely on par and sometimes less than BF3. Just a overall sense of meh. I thought about picking up the current gen version just so I wouldn't be behind the curve when I upgrade to the next gen, but if this is any indicator screw that. I'll just wait a month. Maybe it will get better the more I play but this thing is just too buggy and lame to give me confidence that this will be as good this gen as BF3 was.
On the new Battlelog. You can have personal emblems now and they show up on your character's shoulder patch, your guns, and vehicles that your drive/pilot. It's a beta, man. They never put full graphics into them. Physics, gun tweaks, and menu tweaks, usually aren't in either. They will be for the final game. I'm pretty sure what they actually have done is way better than the beta, which is older code. They do that because 1) it keeps file size down for the beta, and 2) the beta is for stress testing the servers and woking out kinks in the game features that require network connection like matchmaking and chat, etc.
I get that it's a beta, it's just funny because I remember loving the shit out of the BF3 beta and I remember people coming down pretty hard on that. I probably enjoyed it more because it had Rush on one of BF3's best maps instead of Conquest which I think just doesn't work on these consoles with 24 players.
I think it's because it's so similar to BF3. The awe isn't as strong. I feel the same way, but I prepared myself for that possibility. One thing that's really still bugging me is the new controls. Especially for the hellicopters. I've always been the pilot for my squad and the controls for BF3 are PERFECT!!! But, they had to add the Commorose, so that takes up an extra button, and it's one of the most important buttons for the choppers... throttle. Now everything is done with the sticks and I feel it's too much control in one place. It makes it less precise.
Did you change the controls to veteran? I didn't know about it till the guys here mentioned it and thank da LORD they did cuz it makes the game so much better. Back to flying low and fast! The only thing I hope they really work on, because like you said, crashes, bugs, and visuals will probably be ironed out by release, is the gunplay and movement. The wrong guns seem to be very innaccurate at the wrong distances (AR and LMGs) even burst firing, while I feel like it's easier to kill people at a distance and faster with the MX4....Snipers are the only guns that seem to be improved or on par with BF3's. Also is there no suppression in this game anymore? If there is it must not be a visual thing, just accuracy which is kind of lame. Gives you the impression that you should be hitting your mark but your not so... As for movement, I feel like my character is fat or something, most of the time I can't win gunfights anymore if someone sees me first unlike BF3 where I could sometimes take down two dudes firing on me first by diving or breaking their line of sight temporarily.
I did change it to veteran, but the helicopter controls are still weird to me. On BF3 I can hover any chopper on a dime, circle strafe infantry with no problem and dodge in between buildings with ease. Now with this setup it just feels like I'm flopping in the wind. I haven't gotten to focus much on anything more than figuring out the controls, so i haven't noticed the suppression yet. I do agree that the guns are unbalanced and flimsy almost. It feels like everything is flimsy. BF3 had such a tightness to everything. I love the fact that you can zero the scope on snipers and also have variable zoom. I might actually like sniping a lot more. I'm going to wait and reserve judgement for the full game. They did say that they would be making updates over the course of the beta as well, so we'll see.
Wait...you think the guns are weaker than BF3? The kill times are insane right now! I can kill someone with 5 and below bullets! Just like the BF3 beta, kill times are too quick. Also, another thing to note, the BF3 Beta came with the HD Texture pack that you could install with the game. This beta doesn't.
That's the thing I keep hearing inconstancies with the guns. I've literally heard 5 different things about how they're behaving from here and from friends. I wonder what's causing that. I would prefer the kill time to be smaller. It's more realistic and BF3 non-hardcore is almost unplayable for me because it takes so many hits to kill someone. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like this: reloads. It took me a while to remember that they implemented it for BF4, but when you reload you lose all of the ammo remaining in the clip. There's going to be a leaning curve I'm gonna have to grasp fast. I assume the HD textures pack isn't for consoles?
Wow I didn't even notice the did the whole tactical reload thing. No wonder my guns are running dry so quickly. It's kinda cool because it emphasizes the support class but currently there isn't enough dudes playing support and the few that are don't seem to be very helpful.
Guess it could be inconsistencies. Smaller kill times = less skilled gameplay and longer kill times = more skilled gameplay. More keeping on target involved! I've played all of my time on BF3 on normal, hard core was too easy and required less skill. Also, I couldn't give a damn about realism, it's a video game not a simulator The ammo thing is actually a console glitch. Watch any PC beta gameplay and it'l be like normal and won't take away the whole magazine. It's in hardcore I believe but it's not meant for normal gameplay, DICE confirmed that a while back. The texture pack is only for consoles I believe. However, I noticed when I went on today (360) that the graphics look nicer. More textures are there, either it wasn't loading or they updated it. Very awesome game though, can't wait for the full release!
I'm definitely going to upgrade my PC for this. Built it specifically for Battlefield 3 in the first place and it was underpowered for that game, it's definitely going to need an upgrade to play this one. Gonna replace the mobo with a higher end motherboard, upgrade the CPU from a Quad Core to an Octo Core and replace the dated ATi 5770 with something stronger. I think I'm going to take the old parts and put them in my old PC's case with a kit of 4GB of RAM and possibly a second 5770, if I can find one, in Crossfire and lend it to my friend so we can play BF4 and other PC titles together since he doesn't even have a PC. Calling it Operation: Battle Build 2.0. Nerdy, I know. I'm calling the older PC with my current parts added to it Battle Build 1.5, it's specs will be: Battle Build 1.5 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Cooler: Cooler Master V6 GT RAM: G. Skill Sniper 8GB Kit GPU: ATi 5770 (X 2 is possible) Mobo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R1 PSU: Corsair 650W Main Drive: OCZ Solid 3 SSD 60GB Secondary Drive: 500GB WD HDD Tertiary Drive: 500GB WD HDD OS: Windows 7 64 Case: Antec 900 Media Drive: Sony Lightscribe DVD burner Battle Build 2.0 CPU: AMD 8-Core (Either the 9370 or the 9590) Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS (or Corsair Hydro H100i) RAM: G. Skill Trident X 16GB kit GPU: Either AMD 7990 or R9 290X PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W Modular Main Drive: Corsair Force GS 360GB SSD Secondary Drive: WD 2TB HDD Tertiary Drive: WD 1GB HDD OS: Windows 7 64 Case: Thermaltake Chaser Mk I Media Drive: Blu-Ray Burner I don't know why, but talking about PC parts gets me all hyped up.
BF4 feels like a actual sequel to BF2 unlike BF3. About time! I also been noticing the amount of people actually working together then going lone wolf on conquest mode.
My biggest complaint about BF3 (PC version) was that they fucked the players over by refusing to add VOIP to the game. Everyone always says "use vent/team speak/mumble/etc" but that doesn't work unless playing with people you already know. The addition of VOIP for the PC version of BF4 is something I'm thankful for, makes communicating with your team a lot easier.
Nah, the worst thing about BF3 on PC was that you couldn't just launch the game, it had to start origin, so it could start up your internet browser, and then play a sectioned off part of the game
Damn yo, I take back a lot of the disappointment I had with this game. It's stil extremely buggy and the current gen version is definitely just a appetizer for PC and next gen, but I'm finally having fun with this. Even conquest is a lot funner than most conquest maps on BF3 since their are only 3 flags. I LOVEEEEE the battle pick ups. At first I thought it sounded dumb for a fairly "realistic" military shooter but damn I can't help but get a little gleeful when I grab the MGL or M82 and start cutting players in half. They are completely overpowered though. Two clips for the MGL and M82 is way too much considering how easy they are to get kills with. The M82 in particular is kind of unstoppable at mid range and beyond. It should be limited to one clip and possibly longer respawn times. The only good thing is that most people don't seem to bother with them so you don't see a lot of one player spamming them (outside of me lol). That rocket one sucks though. Never even landed a hit with that yet.
The pickups are hilarious; literally no one knows about them and people on the Battlelog forums keep asking how you unlock them. Such idiots
Yeah they are fun as hell to use but no one seems to understand what the gun icon on the mini map is. I'm kind of hoping that there are a few other pick ups. I'd like to see some kind of OP LMG lol.
