The guy who designed MP10 had an interview around the time it was released. He hinted at Ultra Magnus being one he wanted to do. So its not so much a surprise.

 

Not to mention everything prior and post MP Rodimus:

I'm thinking the Decepticons are getting their due.

 

Yeah...the thing is about it is that the Autobots are a bit easier to get out, due to quite a few of them being repaints/slight remolds of each other. So I think they will be taking priority over the Decepticons.

Still the funds they get from those sales will help get more unique MP's made (if they so choose to).

 

I guess all are considered part of Soundwave instead of separate characters.

This would be different towards having say Astrotrain, the Insecticons or perhaps even more wanted a V2 Megatron (to scale MP10), Galvatron and Cyclonus to create the 3 holy trinity's of Autobot and Decepticon command.

I understand your perspective in terms of takara/Hasbro masterpieces. But Transformers life balances out with these third party companies coming out with decepticon based transformers, Fansproject Intimidator, TFC Hercules, Maketoys Giant, MMC Feral Rex, etc...

I know what you're saying, but the guy you quoted still has a valid point when looking at it from a show character (and official MP numbering system) perspective. Soundwave was the only new "normal sized" Con we've seen since Starscream 2.0, and despite having a cassette army, they feel more like tiny add-ons than actual Con troop numbers by comparison. That and 'meh' repaints like Acid Storm, Sunstorm, Nemesis nonsense, Tigertrack, etc. don't count for anything to MANY of us, let alone does any of that horrid looking G2 junk... and Ratbat unfortunately doesn't/won't exist without Soundblaster (another one that doesn't count for anything to many of us). So the way I see the list is sort of like this:

MP-08 Grimlock
MP-09 Rodimus Prime
MP-10 Optimus Prime
MP-12 Sideswipe
MP-14 Red Alert
MP-17 Prowl
MP-18 Bluestreak
MP-19 Smokescreen
MP-20 Wheeljack

MP-11 Starscream

Obviously there's always more Autobots, but this current line-up is feeling & looking very one-sided. We desperately need a Megatron V2 and Skywarp, maybe a Shockwave, and now with Ultra Magnus coming out, possibly a Galvatron to start evening things out. IMO anyway.

 

"LOL" indeed... because, respectfully, third party figs don't mean squat to a great many of us, let alone balance anything. Just saying  

 

I don't think there's too many Autobots at all. There's always more Autobots then Decepticons and when you actually look at it, Decepticons get pretty even representation in MP.

In the new MP line we have:
-Starscream

-Soundwave + Laserbeak
-Soundblaster + Ratbat
-Rumble + Ravage
-Buzzsaw + Frenzy

And Hasbro included:
-Thundercracker
-Acid Storm

Against:
-Optimus Prime
-Sideswipe

-Bluestreak
-Smokescreen
-Wheeljack
-Bumblebee
-Ultra Magnus

So that's 8 against 10, not too bad, especially considering the majority of the Decepticons are way bigger.

None of those aesthetically fit with MPs. The only one that can fit is Quakewave, but he's still not a part of the MP line anyway, regardless of wether people like him.

 

The more I think about this, the more curious I am to know how the trailer will function. Will it come apart and plug onto MP10 in parts, or will it combine without partsforming? The latter would appear to present some significant engineering challenges in terms of articulation and stability, but the way TT have been knocking it out of the park recently with engineering (Lazerbeak. LAZAERBEAK! FREAKING LAZSERBEAK!) I wouldn't be surprised if they can make the latter option work well.

At that price 3rd companies could still be competitive with their offerings. Although I am a huge fan of official takara/hasbro products I am a bigger fan of keeping some money in my pocket as well.

Loving this line and great selection. Pretty much the only action figure line I collect these days

The wait to see prototypes for WJ, BB, & UM is killing me. I'd even settle for something like a BS third party silhouette right now
