after numerous transformations the paint on the head was chipping like crazy, so I took the head apart and soaked the helmet in rubbing alcohol to remove all the paint. I think it looks pretty damn cool
Oh nice.i was actually lookin forba color to match.but I guess I just need to dip it in rubbing alcohol haha.thanks
That...Looks miles better without the yellow paint. Sort of makes me wonder why they even bothered painting the helmet to begin with.
I've been thinking of doing the same to his shoulder and knee joints, which are grey-painted for some reason. i think they're purple plastic.
I honestly hate the yellow head they gave this guy. Your mod looks way better than what the original looked like. Nice job.
what did you do, just let it soak in rubbing alchohol? rub the paint off after soaking? brush it off after soaking? also, did it change the plastic in any noticable way?
I let it soak in a glass of 91% alcohol for about 20 minutes, I dumped the alcohol out and resoaked it in a fresh batch (theres ALOT of yellow paint on this guy) then I used a toothbrush to remove the scraps of paint that didn't come off.
Works great as Long as you have a high Percentage Alcohol. Started with what I had 50%....didn't touch it. Went to 91%....Came right off. Also Painted the "Normal" Blitz "chin strap" black....and he looks 1000x better.
A: I'll try and do some Pics tonight. B: When you did this to yours, did you notice that the head swivel was alot looser? Mine is and I might have to add some superglue to the neck to thicken it and make the swivel tighter.
Oh, wow... so that's the colour it was molded in... nice! I just got my Blitzwing 2 days ago, and the first thing that bothered me was how thick and gloppy the paint on the helmet was. Also, it was a group buy, and out of a box of four Blitzwings, every single one had chips, smudges or drips on the helmet. I have to admit, I'm kind of partial to Blitz's distinctive old G1 yellow helmet... but I'll definitely keep this in mind, in case the chipping gets worse. zmog
I've done this too and it does look good, but that yellow is a bitch to get out of the crevices. INSPIRATO!!
Here he Is...Sans Yellow head. Had to repaint Visor as there was some chipping. And May have to touch up the chinstrap, as some black came off in the lower left corner as I put the head back together. The soft plastic doesn't seem to like to keep the paint. Also, had to add some superglue to the Neck Joint. The Stripped yellow paint made the neck swivel real loose. And the high end DSLR camera I used to take this pic does show there is still some yellow, though it's alot less noticeable in real life.
Wow very very nice dude.good job.I bought the bottle but been too lazy to do it.I been toy hunting like crazy getting the wreckers set.Cant wait until I do this mod as well. And yeah I am sure it is a pain in the tookus to remove the yellow in the smaller crevices
scrub it out with a old toothbrush, that's what I did. took a while to get it all but it does all come out
