Hey everyone. I've been trying to think of the correct name for the coffin-shaped thing on most transformers heads. I've looked into the biology and anatomy sections of tfwiki, but I still can't find it. I'm certain there is info out there about them.

    Hopefully someone can help me.

    Thanks :)

I think they're called crests; I think they're for aesthetic purposes.

That helped. I think the word 'crest' REALLY helped, Thanks MrByatis. There's still very little info out there, but I think it's enough to get by.

Well, it could actually have a use tho on some bots. In that pic up there of OP, it looks like ventilation. In Gundams, they have sensors in them.

Head crests, yeah. Typically used for sensor suites, communications, or ventilation, based on the designs and common usage.

Hey man I don't know why you looking into it. But i think you putting too much effort into it. It's not really Cybertorian anatomy. It's just an art style.

They're often a cover plate for ports/cable connections for diagnostic and interface purposes.

I dunno about 'coffins'. I always thought they looked more like little neckties for their foreheads. :)

Does that mean Prowl and people with his chevrons are wearing little bow-ties? :3

I think that would be awesome. Now I'm reminded of little dogs with big red bows on their foreheads.

    Bad, Prowl! In your basket!

I consider it a crest or a crown.
