Even Scott and Barda are no longer married?
Good grief. I didn't think I could respect Didio and Co. any less.
    I stand corrected.

They're in Earth 2 and it reads like they just met not that long ago.

    Lovely.
I'm not reading Earth 2. Too many changes to the characters for my tastes. I liked the JSA, and at least to me E2 doesn't feel like the JSA.

Earth 2 is the poor man's JSA and now DC has chased off the writer of the book. It'll have a lot of editorial mandates and sales will probably start dropping. Part of the reason it's done well so far is it's a seperate continuity and hasn't had any event outside the book interfearing.

So we are losing a no holds barred fight of Batman vs Batwoman for a year zero issue?
Dc really knows their audience don't they?

Well given how the New 52 reboot was kind of meant to appeal to another generation of readers, maybe they figured that generation doesn't care? Heck I'm not sure the next generation of readers even knows there's a Batwoman, let alone cares about one.

They said that then but Didio said recently that they write comics for 45 Year old Men. Makes me think the whole DCNu thing was a waste of time if they didn't get the new audience they wanted and are now writing for "45 year old Males"

The guys running DC are so out of touch of exactly who their audience is and what they want.

That was Paul Pope talking about the turned down Kamandi Project right? Not sure we can claim that as accurate. Was a timeframe for that given? Had the impression it was pre Nu52.

He didn't say it recently, it was back around 2006. (EDIT: Actually going from the Newsarama link, Pope is quoted as saying "and this conversation goes back to 2005 or so, so this is before “New 52” and new editorial directions and all this other stuff" although Year 100 didn't get published till 2006. Nonetheless, that was not a recent Didio quote at all)

It was pre Nu52, Pope talked about how it was after Batman Year 100 (published in 2006) was doing really well.

Clearly satire, but for a while you kinda finding yourself taking it seriously.

It's not the JSA. It's different. But it's still great. It's just great in a different way. They're completely new characters, despite the inherited names.

And I say that as someone who has been a huge JSA fan for more than 3 decades. Earth-2 is well worth reading. It's been one of the better New 52 books overall. Although I have to admit it took me several issues to really warm up to it. I was so disappointed it wasn't going to be an actual classic Earth-2 book, it took me a while to get past that.

And I was going to drop it with the change in writers, but the new guy is good, too, so I'll give it a shot for a few issues at least.

At least it's working for you. The first issue turned me off, and even recently when I read the trade collecting the first five issues, my feelings haven't changed. You're absolutely right about these being all new characters, and all I can think while reading Earth-2 is "that isn't Jay, that isn't Alan, that isn't Al", etc.

If the book had genuinely new characters instead of repurposed Golden Age characters, who knows how I'd feel about it? As it is, as a JSA fan since the early 90s, I hate the book for what it's done to my favorite characters. I tried, but it feels like a bunch of impostors to me rather than reimagined characters.

Yeah, I just read the first volume of Earth 2 and it would have been a lot more enjoyable if they hadn't used the names of Jay and Alan. Nor Grundy (as that felt more like Nekron than Grundy).

That's the sad reality about popular properties though. Companies like DC will always try to slap a name of a character on to a new character even if there's only remote similarities in hopes of establishing a connection with older fans and get them to fork over money. Unfortunately, they don't always work out.

TRUTH. Earth 2 isn't bad, but it definitely doesn't feel JSA/Golden Age at all.
