My first heavy custom is finally complete! I know I'm not the first one to do this, in fact this project was inspired by encline's articulated prime, but it's the first time I've done it so...here we go. This started life as a busted up G1 prime that then received the shoulder joints and thighs from a little classics prime (from the two pack), head and hands from alternators prime, and the waist from a BW Buzzsaw. After some cutting, a bit of scratch building, a lot of gorrilla glue, and a fresh coat of paint we get this! Unfortunately I couldn't think of a good way to integrate his hands so they still parts-form a little but its no worse than original so I'm happy with it. mods include: - ball joint shoulders - articulated hands - articulated neck - rotating waist - ball joint hips - rotating thighs - forearm shortening - cartoon styled paint The hands can store inside the cab in truck mode. I liked the original truck mode so I kept it as original as possible. The rifle is the Art Tek Hero Rifle with a couple of paint accents. my next project will be a jarrod style scratch built nightbeat! thanks for looking!
all things considered splendid work! only the neck kinda takes me out of the feeling of it, but for the mold, amazing work!
This is very reminiscent of turboedguy's work. Overall, it's just really great. Honestly, your presentation here alone is stellar and worth mentioning. THIS is how you photograph and present a custom. Thank you for taking the time to detail what you did to this in your first post and sharing your work with so many nice photos! Just a few things, and some of these may just be my own personal biases: Overall, I think I'd prefer to simply see the G1 toy articulated. The addition of the Alternators Prime head is just a slight bit off, especially since the head design is that of Powermaster Prime/Ginrai. The hands are just ever slightly too big. Perhaps Alternators Side Swipe would have been a better loaner bot for hands (but those may be a slight bit too small, I dunno). Again, with G1 toy details, I'd just prefer the original colors to be used. The brighter blue always seems a bit off to me. I even feel like this when I hold my G2 Prime. I prefer translucent windows, but in this case I can see why you painted them (as in robot mode, you can see right through his back left unaltered!). Still, I think I'd suggested going more with the blacker windows for this. Honestly, I feel much of the above is kinda just nitpicking. However, that being said, since you took the time to do so much so well, I feel like your work is worth that level of criticism. Thanks so much for posting, and I'm SUPER excited about seeing that Nightbeat!
Now this.... I really enjoy this kind of thing. Classic childhood toy with modern articulation and bright, crisp and clean colors to bring the whole thing to life... it's just fun! That is the most important part of this hobby, having fun and creating fun! You have achieved both. Congrats. This is great.
thanks for all the comments! I will freely admit that the hands are too big and that the neck and head are a bit ify I did debate about shortening the neck, but as i'm heading off to college soon decided that it wasn't noticeable enough to take the time to redo. I looked at just about every prime mold I had for a good donor head and decided that I liked the alternators the best, despite it's inaccuracy I find it more suitable than the original. All the coloration was just down to personal preference . I wanted him to look very cartoonish and a bit over the top. Thanks for all the helpful criticism and encouraging comments!
after turboedguy and winstonojo, you the best done this alterations for this original G1 prime mold....honestly its so nostalgic to me not because of memory from my childhood...but ii is because im started into customizing world doing alteration of this original old school mold...and that my 1st custom is still laying on my upper shelf till now.....undone!!! i think one day i will finish him if i have chance...honestly i really like what you done to him...bravo
I believe that this is what people mean when they say they want a proper chug optimus I could be wrong but no one's corrected me before
I'd probably like the original toy hands and head more and the neck is a bit too long... But otherwise I think it's great.
