Source: HitFlix Friday, Dec 3, 2010 5:00 AM HitFix can now exclusively report that Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot "Pirates 5" and "Pirates 6." And, yes, once again, they will be shooting them back-to-back as one giant film, and then they'll release them as two films. We know Depp is committed to "Dark Shadows" and "The Lone Ranger" for 2011, so that raises the question of when they'll shoot these sequels. A shoot like that could take the better part of a year, but the great part about shooting in Hawaii is that you can easily shoot right through the winter. Disney will want to get Depp back in his "Pirates" duds as soon as he's done playing Tonto for them, but I can't swear to the schedule.
The 2nd movie was just about tolerable, and the 3rd was utter shite. I hold out very little hope for any further POTC movies.
I'll see how "Stranger Tides" is before I make any conclusions one way or the other about more films after that. I'm fairly optimistic, since I enjoyed the first three enough and the two most annoying characters have been written out for the new films. Exactly. They learned that even two mediocre PotC movies can gross a combined $2 billion dollars worldwide. And that's really the only lesson that matters.
On Stranger Tides has a different director so I'm still hoping it won't go off in the completely bizarre direction (excuse the pun) that DMC and ATW's took the series.
I liked Dead man's chest.(Davy Jones was awesome) Worlds End was a overly long epilogue to the last film. The 4th one feels unnecessary. Making not only a 5th, but 6th movie, is beating a dead cash cow.
They started that a long time ago. Remember the legions of crappy Disney sequels? I actually guess I'm in the minority here - I thought the last two, Dead Man's Chest and World's End were great movies. I'm optimistic about Stranger Tides... but the biggest thing that I don't like about this film is the fact it looks like Pintel and Ragetti aren't returning for this one. Five and six... well, Disney will have to see how Stranger Tides goes first, before finishing a second Pirates Trilogy. No doubt it'll make mucha mucha $$$$$$$$, but if I were Disney, I'd see how Stanger Tides goes first.
I'm in the minority as well. I actually thought the series got better as it went on and the first one was the mediocre one. I'm all for this as long as they keep making them enjoyable. Sparrow is the heart of the series, so if Depp is still on board, there's a decent shot they'll be good.
News like this is what makes me think the current live action transformers series will continue. No sense ending a perfectly profitable franchise. Show Business.
so much for being a trilogy...the movies suck anyways, so i don't see how a second one even got made in the first place.... oh right, people like shit, it explains the twilight series
I'm a big fan of the franchise and I enjoy DMC and AWE more than COTBP. My only hope is that they leave some of the supernatural stuff behind. The first movie was about a cursed pirate crew and the second and third films were about a different cursed pirate crew. I hope by bringing Blackbeard aboard, they're ditching the ghosts and getting to some real hardcore pirate action!
