Well the next best thing to watch in the Classic series are & in no particular: The Invasion, Pyramids of Mars, Carnival of Monsters, Caves of Androzani, Revelation of The Daleks, Curse of Fenric, Talons of Weng Chiang (Trust me a Huge Cloth Rat is hilarious! :p ), The Seeds of Death, Earthshock, Ghostlight, and The Three Doctors might suffice! ;)

Hope that helps or unless of course you can go with the Big Finish Audios since they can be more mature then expected in storylines & Character development

Spare Parts by Marc Platt, Jubilee by Rob Shearman (The Precursor to 2005's Dalek by the same writer) are just 2 out of over a Hundred titles that came at the top of my head. So believe me, if you like good plot development next to Nippon Animation's World Masterpiece Theater.....look no further than both sides of Doctor Who!
