the details and proportions look fantastic compared to the deluxe my only complaint would be they should have used the samy shiny red plastic they used on the japan animated figures. OP just kinda feels dull

great review and i cant wait for the bulk head review

    DO.WANT.NOW!

Seriously, awesome, awesome Optimus fig. Just beautiful. Understandable about the near identical transformation schemes, but I guess that'd probably be a no-issue for anyone opting for only one fig or the other. Buying both though, I could see why someone would be disappointed. But in all honesty, I don't see how anyone only wanting one fig would choose the deluxe over the voyager. After seeing that vid, I could now care less about the deluxe.

Shame about the sword though. I've seen plenty of rubbery weapons before, but wow, that's crazy rubbery.

Thanks for the review. For some reason the tone of your voice really made him sound negative, and you kept bringing up how he was so similar to the deluxe, yet he ends up looking just uncomparably better in robot mode that similarities in transformation shouldn't really matter. All in all, he looks like a spectacular figure. Heck, for some reason, I'm not crazy about the actual design in the show, but somehow the toy makes it work better. I know the sword looks way too soft, but hey, these days one accessory is the norm, so it's nice to have that thrown in with the gun.

Nice review. Just one question ... can the wrist be rotate 180 degree so I imagine the blade can be held pointing down (instead of what it is now indeed unusual)

Even though the transformation looks similar but the detail does look a lot different... like where the front wheels go and how the chest becomes.... Enough difference to make a purchase. (and I didn't even bother to get the deluxe class's ever since I saw the photos of them)

Takara aren't in the same cost squeeze as Hasbro.

If you're willing to pay twice the price, or more, there's a fairly good chance Takara Prime toys will have somewhat more vivid. paint applications.

Odd that the Voyager wouldn't be more complex than the Deluxe. Aside from a few small changes, they're pretty much the same figure. I'll definitely get it, but the Deluxe will be worthless, really. =\

Great review as usual! I'm sorry you didn't like how the transformation's similar to the Deluxe so it must be a bit of the bummer. Still I'm way more intrested in the Voyager than the Deluxe so I'm not bothered by it!

Great review as always. He's a must-buy, but it would appear that's been the consensus all along. :)

I also have to say that this review, aside from the new-school music intro you've been using lately, has more of the laid-back, chilled-out vibe of some of your classic vid reviews from years ago. Felt kinda retro-cool like that to me, lol. Perhaps it's just the home set-up coming back? I know so many of your reviews get done late night during work downtime these days. I've no idea what brought on that feeling, but I just had to mention it. :lol

Look at me - I guess I even hold nostalgia for things like video reviews, lmao. *runs away and hides like a truly embarrassed uber-nerd*

Agreed! Rather cool sig pic there too, TCracker!

Ok, enough exclamation marks for now... If I'm gonna be on the fence about anything to do with the TF: Prime line it won't be over getting at least one of these Voyagers; the Deluxe Prime is definately the lower priority. That being said I may still get him by proxy - if I get the Entertainment Pack. Yet with said set's Animated counterpart, the Optimus there was in Cybertronian mode and so was quite different to the TFP Voyager, so with that in mind I particularly get where Peaugh's coming from. Still, in a 'choose the definitive representation of the character' scenario, Voyager Optimus Prime does it for me, though I expect there to be those out there who may choose the Deluxe over it due to preference, retail presence, shelf space, finances or only collecting that size class. ;)

Yes, but to have the blade in the correct position you see the hand and the peg sticking out of it, which looks weird.

Great looking figure, honestly I was slightly let down that its transformations are very similiar with the Deluxe figure, I'm getting both Deluxe and Voyager so I hope that they would be at least quite different, also, I thought that Voyager doesn't have the faux chest windows?

The Voyager does indeed have fake chest windows. But it's nowhere near as bad looking as the Deluxe!

Yikes, I didn't realize the entire sword was the soft plastic and not just the blade. The soft plastic for the stacks is a little disappointing, too. I wonder if there's any chance those will be regular plastic (and maybe even silver) on the Japanese release.

And wherever else Hasbro thinks they need to cut corners to save money, I wish they would at least paint the hubcaps silver. That one simple thing makes such a huge difference. I'll do it myself for this toy, but I wish I didn't have to. This is a Voyager, for crying out loud. Not to mention, the Deluxe does have the silver wheels. That is completely backwards if one of the two has to be without.

All in all, though, a very nice looking mold and I can't wait to pick it up. I just hope we see in-hand shots of the Takara version before Hasbro's shows up here, so I can make a decision of which of the two I'll want.

Good figure, rubber bits are disappointing, but I still fail to see how the Voyager is supposed to be sooooooo much better than the Deluxe (a very good toy to begin with). It's just a slightly different take.

Must be the arms transformation. What bugged me for the deluxe was the back of the bot. Looks like he is wearing a wood board on his back. The voyager does not have that problem, so he looks better as his body lines and 'abs' are more accentuated.

    Just my 2 cents.
