BTS Toys Soundblaster Sonicron Black Version - Transformers News - TFW2005


Please note - this is just a hand-painted test version we have been given an advance look at here. It is already looking very sharp in black and red, and I am sure once the BTS team get a version with full paint apps this will look incredible. One of the strong points on Sonicron is the killer deco IMO, so I personally cannot wait to see how this turns out.

 

Shame that the figure itself is kind of crap.

 

I was gonna say, did anyone even buy the blue soundwave version? This was an easy pass for me to begin with.

 

I liked it. I get where you are coming from, though look at it this way - the jointing was made loose so the thing doesn't seize like the Mastermind Knight Morpher Commander or sound like it is constantly scraping away fit to break like the Xovergen Grand Patriot (those aren't ratchets clicking in the hips).

I've had access to the finalised version, which is slightly improved from the early version seen at Botcon - the joints are a little tighter, still on the loose side, but better.

 

Would actually have looked better as Classics Blaster!

 

Mm I'm not sure Fabe   The DL Broadblast acts very well as Classic Blaster  

 

its funny that they dont show the back with its large waist piece sticking out.

 

Wonder if knee movement is any better with this one. I always dug the G1 tape compatibility, but the review by Deceptigar had me skeptical on this mold.

 

Is it? I only got a fairly brief look at one of the botcon ones. Several had their heads popped off in package, the proportions are off and the plastic just seemed really cheap. If they've improved it then that's at least something. I think part of it is that I had some seriously high hopes for the figure that didn't pan out. It didn't seem absolutely horrible, just a bit...meh.

no amount of paint is gonna fix all the issues the figure has.

 

It could be Gold Plated Sonicron for all I care. Unless they fix the blatant problems of the first, this figure is useless to me. I still do love the recorder mode though, so much possibility, such poor execution.

 

And this is why they don't do any side views. Or any views of him kneeling. Seriously a shame on what could have been an awesome figure.

 

Proportions - well, short of a complete redesign they're unchanged. They don't seem as bad in hand, to be honest - no worse than DL Blaster.
Head - it does pop off, yes, but it pops on just as easily. It's for the interchangeable head gimmick, the idea appears to have been to avoid stressing anything when swapping parts out.
Plastic - seems no worse than a mainline toy to me. Nothing feels overly cheap or flimsy.
Knees - I'll take another look later, but they seem to move okay. The leg shape might limit some movement but he probably can be made to kneel.

 

This toy has so many problems that it's to know where to start describing them all. I'll wait for the inevitable clearance sale, because I'll have to put a lot of time into customizing it just to get it into acceptable form.

 

even going with black repaints isn't enough to save it.

 

Yeah....sorry, but they can save it. This thing really is terrible.

 

The blue one is still on preorder. I need to have that in hand before giving in to a repainted version. There has to be a way to improve the hinge that sticks out the back in bot mode..

 

apparently there were 20 of em and did sell out fast. Before the review, i was definitely interested in sonicron. After the review from deceptigar (i just realized i didn't get to see it after just being at his place, doh) it was a surprise for people to see it, so that's news.

Not sure if you saw after thereview, but apparently those 20 sonicrons were apparently proto's and were meant for dealers/online retailers but i guess there was mis-communication and BTS promised a better and final version. i guess when people saw that they were proto's people threw them on ebay for an extra buck  

honestly, if i was at botcon and had the opportunity, i would have bought on site as well.

that's good to hear, but yeah they gotta focus more on the first one and issue a bigger 'press release'. Unfortunately, the review for sonicron gave it some more bad rep as it is. showing another version of non finalized toy is not going to help it.

unfortunately, a lot of people feel the same way and i almost feel that way. while inevitable on a repaint, they should have held back on showing these pics.

review aside, the black repaint doesn't look great at all to me. sonicron does look decent.

 

its not only the joints or what not. It just LOOKS bad. The design falls extremely short to the proportions of the drawing.

 

in all fairness, comparing product to line art is a little unfair. which i suppose is why most 3rd parties release CAD designs, not line art. also it is "based off" the art, it's not like they created the art.
