Recent threads in our Transformers on Ebay forum have brought to light a scam that takes place on Ebay and apparently has been for quite awhile - and it's time to show some light on that subject.

    Fake AFA graded toys.

That's right - there are people on Ebay (typically Chinese sellers it would appear) that are faking AFA graded toys.

Check the link at the top for the news story!

Is AFA grading really that important? Is the toy in a case with an AFA sticker and a number make the value of the toy shoot up sometimes upwards of 400%?

Wow. I am not sure AFA has the means to go after these guys, but it would be nice if they did.

I'm not real familiar with the AFA process, but do they issue some kind of certificate of authenticity after they give back the the AFA graded toy?

    Buncha lowlife crooks . . . .

As someone who thoroughly enjoys MIB and sealed TFs mostly from afar, I have to say that this is really saddening. It certainly doesn't surprise me, as nothing does. Still . . . .

One of the greatest assets to a collector is this very board and its contributors. I'm very thankful for things like this being able to be brought to light. :)

This is tragic, but hardly surprising. With the amount of $$$$ involved in AFA graded TFs, there's bound to be people willing to put down lots of time faking items.

I'm not shocked by this (well apart from the Dbag factor) AFA is big money and can turn a $40 KO into a $3000 original to the untrained eye so seeing fakes was always going to happen.

looks like its the end of afa, if they flood the market with these things. if not, then they sure will cause alot of confusion. to be honest people like me cant tell the difference at all. that would be 90% have never seen an afa.

If I was at that position, any G1 collector who does their due diligence will ask for the graded item number. Then go forward it to AFA and ask if they can confirm if that the item is real. They should have a database on items they have graded. If I'm spending a lot on an AFA graded Transformers, this is a first step on researching the item... do the research.

Action Figure Authority ? Home Page

Just click on the link for the FAQs page. Basically though, it's just contacting them and sending your item(s) in so they can grade them for you.

This is really going to take a hit. People who have spent money on the grading and those who have spent money actually buying AFA graded items will be come a bit wary now.
