Why do I feel like they were working on a Rodimus Prime, couldn’t get it to work and rather than throw away the time, retooled it into this?

That would be WAY too much of a retool, it might as well be an entirely new figure

What makes you say that?
It’s basically a space Winnebago, with the trailer splitting off and the front being the robot.
You can see from the bot and alt mode images where certain panels from alt. end up in robot, and they seem to match up with Rodimus.
Change the colours, stick on a Rodimus head, the rest is superficial.

 

Painted Prototypes aren’t good enough to get you excited?

I think it looks amazing , they done a superb job of capturing young Optimus primes likeness in bot mode , alt mode looks off but the cartoon model was a bit shit

 

I like XTB, but how about they try and release a few of the dozens of renders they have shown.
