Thoughts on formats? Looks like there’s PDF, HQ PDF, EPUB, MOBI and CBZ. The CBZ files are about a third the size of the others, is that normal for comics? Shouldn’t the images make it so that they’re all about the same size, or are the PDF and EPUB containers just that much bigger? It’s around 120MB versus 40MB…

    Thanks.

I imagine the CBZ is smaller because it's basically a ZIP file (that is to say, compressed) with a different extension (seriously, you can take a ZIP file full of images, rename the extension to CBZ, and it'll work in any comic reader that handles CBZ).

That’s my understanding as well, which is why I’m confused by the size difference; even if an EPUB held the images as uncompressed, that’s way too big of a difference, compression will only get you so far. Oh well, time for some sciencing!

Man.. is the bundle region locked? I can't access it in Asia. I remember the previous 2 bundles were available to me.

I am copy/pasting what I wrote in the hot deals sub-forum:

So this new bundle has 53 different comics/compilations. I want to see if this adds to what I have already from previous Humble Bundle IDW TF deals.

So, far I am seeing they have added:
    Optimus Prime Vol 5.
Transformers, Vol. 2: The Change In Your Nature
Transformers, Vol. 3: All Fall Down
Transformers, Vol. 7: Combiner Wars - First Strike (not sure if this is included in "Transformers: Combiner Wars" trade book)
    Transformers: Best of Megatron
    Transformers: Best of Optimus Prime
    Transformers: Lost Light, Vol. 4
Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye, Volume 10
Transformers: Unicron (not sure what this adds over #0 through 6)
    Transformers '84: Legends & Rumors 100-Page Giant
    Transformers '84: Secrets and Lies
Transformers: 100-Page Giant—Power of the Predacons
Transformers (2019), Vol. 1: The World in Your Eyes
    Transformers: Beast Wars, Vol. 1
Transformers: The Wreckers Saga (not sure if this is different from Last Stand, Requiem, or Sins of Wreckers)
    Transformers: Halloween Special

Great deal for someone new to the comics. I am not sure $20 is worth it for the above for those of us who have previous deals. Obviously, there is the charity aspect to consider as well.

While this looks like a great deal, be wary of what your buying electronically. There will soon be many upset Funimation subscribers when that site goes away & all those "codes" & digital content at risk. There are also all those digital codes with dvd/blu rays where the host sites disappear. Just expect a short term lease & not a permanent ownership of what you are buying & use it accordingly.

This deal is not what you are talking about. The Humble Bundle gives you a digital rights management free pdf option meaning you can store it locally and read it forever. I have a lot of this through Amazon’s Comixology and I’m still tempted by the DRM free format.

Yes. To be clear this is for digital comics. Though with a DRM free pdf if you want you can print this all out. Find a publishing company that does custom prints and give this the omnibus treatment.

Aside: this bundle doesn’t include the spotlights trade, Revolutions, or Titan’s Return. It also doesn’t have Dark Cybertron

I'd be curious to learn your findings, but compression really does make a huge difference, in my experience. I don't see why this seems too large.

Whenever I’ve zipped images, I’ve only ever gotten a about a 10% or so reduction in size before losing quality.

    Thanks for the correction!

This is a hell of a deal. If you don’t have these or don’t have a DRM free copy go for it.
