Eh, this game was never going to be anything more than microtransaction-filled garbage. If it never happens, then good riddance.

Is Transformers Online the same thing as Transformers Rise?

As the impression I'm getting reading this is that Certain Affinity itself was still intact, just not all the other stuff purchased in the buyout.

Hmm, the premise sounded kinda promising, pity it's probably going to end up cancelled :/

    Same thing.

If Tencent is continuing the production at Certain Affinity (Texas), then we won't have a problem. But the LeYou staff in China lost all hope.

Certainly sounds that way. Though as the article itself mentions, Certain Affinity was the prize acquisition, and TenCent likes being hands-off. So it's entirely possible they bought the company just for that one studio and offloaded the rest.

Are there any good games made recently? I played that new Doom game and it had plushies hidden in levels (wtf). Fired up Valhiem for a bit but realized it needed polish before I should invest time. There was that new TF game that came to console "Battlegrounds" which was complete shit. I just chalk all this up to big investors trying to cash in on a market they don't give a rats ass about. The consoles themselves are garbage -IMO- especially the make money off of licensing strategy.

Hasbro doesn't own their own AAA-level gaming studio.

And very few AAA-level studios are willing to do licensed games any more, with how expensive it is to develop for current gen.

Of course the only promising TF game in the last decade would get canned. What a waste of time and money.

Biased much? We've heard very little about this game overall, and given the previous attempts to take the Transformers in an MMO direction didn't go particularly smoothly, either, I don't know how you could pin such high hopes on this particular game.

High hopes? It was the Only decent sounding none mobile trash game for TF in the past decade, I had some slight hope, not high, but something. Now I have none.

For what it’s worth, it’s still another year until the ten year anniversary of Fall of Cybertron.

If only the High Moon Studios games could get rereleased somehow…

And that Activision no longer has the license so those games couldn't be put back on the market regardless. Though to be honest with the lawsuits against them, I'm not touching anything Activision/Blizzard for awhile.

I don't know what criteria you're judging on, when this is a gaming decade that began with Skyrim, and has included acclaimed and ambitious games like The Last of Us, God of War 4, Spider-Man (PS4/5), Final Fantasy VII: Remake, The Witcher 3, most of the Batman: Arkham franchise, Bioshock: Infinite, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and so on and so forth. And that's just a handful of the big names listed, not even accounting for heavy-hitters in more niche genres like fighting games, or stand-out indie projects like Undertale or Hollow Knight.

Licensed MMO (which tend not to have the most impressive lifespans) from an unknown (in the West) Chinese publisher doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of "hype". Even the High Moon Transformers games, the most successful for the franchise, were at best a niche curiosity in the overall gamer sphere.
