Beautiful. But this detailed artwork merits a proper figure or even an MP, not a tiny little miniature. More love for Kranix! A fleeting but highly memorable presence in TFTM, and along with you know who, our first real introduction to the surreal other-worldy look laid down by Floro Dery that permeated the film.
I feel like Kranix is the type of character who would benefit greatly from a RED release. Characters like this who could stand at the 5-6 inch height but don't need to transform should definitely see some light in the RED series overall IMO.
Having this figure in hand now I can say it was very underwhelming. I understand the Quints jail cell mode meant he had to be out of scale with the other figures, but damn...This was definitely a missed opportunity to retool Rung into Kranix. I hope they revisit this guy in the future.
Almost breaks my heart to see such good artwork, knowing that there isn't a figure that comes close to matching it. That would be my hope as well. There are quite a few characters like that, and — if recolors will ever be a thing in R.E.D. — Kranix himself could even double as one of the evil Nebulons from Rebirth.
Love that idea, especially since he was around the same height as both Hot Rod and Kup when they were together in their cells. However, I feel like Hasbro would most likely release him as a Build-A-Figure since he is such a one off character from a very specific scene that only collectors like myself would be interested in and he would most likely shelfwarm anywhere if he were a solo release.
He should have at least had more paint. He is incredibly plain for an exclusive. He would stand out more in the display.
No offense to Ken of course but is there a reason they keep paying him to just draw very slightly different versions of existing model sheets and toys? As an artist myself I gotta respect the hustle here on Ken's part but I'd rather they pay him to design actually new stuff and put his skills to proper use instead of wasting his time and his talent on redrawing an old Dery model sheet because they're too lazy to just pull the old sheet up themselves.
So I just noticed, 34 years later, that Kranix shares some traits with Unicron, the same feet , beard, claw hands.. do their races share a common ancestor?
Kinda like a lot of the original '86 movie designs by Dery. More to do with the original artist than any kind of backstory connection, IMO.
It's good to see Ken still doing work on TF stuff, and this is a pretty great design. I kinda wish the figure itself was a bit more impressive.
