I have no idea who these cover bots are.

 

Glyph and Tap-Out. IIRC, they're based on south american recolors of the Bee and Cliffjumper molds. They've gotten some minor fame here and there in Botcon publications and some nods in TF: Animated. The general inference in the few media they've been in is that they're a couple, either romantic or platonic, depending on what media they're in.

That aside, why does this look like some kind of setup for an 80's movie? Young office worker gets offered a dream position, and her deadbeat musclehead boyfriend just lost his job and is totally despondent about it. It couldn't be more 80's if it turned out that Glyph was a stripper/welder.

 

I´m a sucker for cheesy romance stories, definitely gonna be picking this up, haha

 

I wonder if it was mandatory to use such Z-list characters for this. No offense to the characters since I don't know them, but it feels like using names that are actually marketable would have caught more attention.

 

Eh, it´s a one-off holiday special that will most likely never be mentioned again. it´s pretty harmless, and tbh I´m glad they´re fleshing out underused characters.

Looks like it'll be a nice break from the main title and Galaxies. It'll be interesting for me to see them for the first time, and hopefully everything works out for them!

 

Probably, but it would also result in far less creative freedom. This you can do some stuff with and take some liberties without a bazillion fanboys and girls boiling up from the floorboards complaining.

 

And that's why they went with Glyph and Tap-out. Letting two doves date on one stone.

But yeah, i also love the Unicron Trilogy character cameos.

 

Wow. This is so far, incredibly boring. Not familiar with these writers either. Nor the main characters. I understand they had some TFCC or Botcon toys quite a while ago, or something?

 

I have fond memories of Glyph and Tap out, but I would have preferred using some cartoon appearing characters instead , like one of ELitas one cartoon crew. I might pick this up if I can somehow get it when I am i Japan

 

Counterpoint: These characters have existed for almost 18 years and it is far, far past time they got a chance in the spotlight.

If for no other reason than, the next time a writer or artist decides to include Glyph and Tap-Out, we can get a little less "I have no idea who these characters are / I have no attachment to these characters" out of the fandom.

 

I'm just happy these two actually get to do something.

Tap Out needs to be introduced to the other angry, washed up gladiator. They’d probably be pals.

 

counterpoint though is that by using well established characters who already have things set out you limit yourself to the type of story you can tell.

Case in point on its 10th anniversary, Last Stand of the Wreckers used a lot of Characters who had far less fiction in place than these two, heck, Rotorstorn, Ironfist and Pyro had had nothing outside of their tech spec bios before that comic came out

 

This looks interesting. I'm liking the artwork. I wasnt fond of the artwork used in the IDW reboot series, not to mention the rather slow and boring storyline (imo, of course). So this looks to be a refreshing return to TF comics for me... for one book, at least.

I'm sorry, but all IDW as become to me is robots standing or sitting around talking about things I don't care about. It's so utterly generic and lifeless.

 

I’d much rather they use existing characters with hardly any fiction than just making up new characters. We have over 35 years of Transformers and tons of characters to farm from. While a new one here and there is fine, try to use the older ones for more than cannon fodder.
