    Hi, all!

I don't expect this to be a crazy popular thread, being about a 1-step toy, but I wanted to share some side-by-side comparison photos with you, since I don't think anybody else has already done so.

This is the new 1-step Cyberverse Soundwave alongside the 1-step Robots in Disguise Soundwave.

    20180707_114553~01.jpg

As you can see, the toy is in a much brighter blue plastic (except for the shoulder portions, which are only a shade or two lighter than the RiD version) with different paint deco to look more like the Evergreen design.

As some suspected, Soundwave does not have a re-sculpted head. The RiD sculpt was always very true to how we expect Soundwave to look, so the different paint apps work perfectly to make him look like his Evergreen self.

I quite like the new black tyres on the Cyberverse version.
Interestingly, Hasbro have tweaked the paint mask on the grille to better match Soundwave's robot mode chest.

Compared to the Warrior Class RiD Soundwave in vehicle mode.

And a big group shot including Soundwave's Minicon minions.

    Thanks for looking!

In case anyone is interested, here's some clear front and back in-package photos (uploaded as thumbnails, 'cause this post is pic-heavy enough as it is.)

    Are you kidding me?
Hasbro was so cheap that they didn't bother to make a new mold and decided to repaint an entirely different Soundwave and pass him off as a "new toy"?
That BW Megatron quote would be fitting right now..

This may be a repaint and the design may not match Soundwave's proper Cyberverse design, but it honestly looks better than the RiD version! Dare I say there might be a little bit of hope? :O

    "New packaging, same product. Losers!"

To be honest it doesn't bother me much that Hasbro repainted RiD Soundwave. It's a fun little mold and the new paint masks do a lot to differentiate between the two.

Of the three different 1-step molds in Cyberverse wave 1 Soundwave has easily had the most work put into making him distinct from his RiD equivalent.

I reeeaaallly hope that when it comes time for the warrior Cyberverse figure they at least tweak the mold. A new head would be nice, along with the panel thing on his shoulder.

Well the bright side of everything and everyone having a G1-inspired design is that Hasbro can get away with stuff like this and none of the kids will notice. Genius!

I’m kinda surprised at how much better he looks with just some color separation in the face, since Movie Soundwave is barely even Soundwave, at all.

So, I’m at least curious to see how the larger sized Cyberverse Soundwaves will shape up.

I'm not questioning staff actions or news decisions, but I don't understand how this is news? I don't follow Cyberverse so is this the first we're seeing of Soundwave?

Mainly asking because we don't see much in the way of reviews on the News section.

Mods, if I'm out of line, please advise. Thanks.

I don't really understand why they've even bothered doing this. It's not like the old days when they used repaints from old lines to fill out the one single main toy line. Cyberverse has four class sizes with all-new moulds, and it has to share the shelves not only with the current Generations POTP and SS lines with five and three size classes respectively, but also the upcoming Bumblebee movie line, which itself has four size classes plus numerous other non-class based figures and role-play toys.

It's great that Hasbro are catering for a range of tastes and audiences, but it shouldn't be so much that it's either overwhelming or there simply isn't the physical room for it all.

I don't know... Cyberverse have some very articu- oh. You're referring to THIS Cyberverse.

Yeah this toyline is disappointing. Why not just Redeco the GOOD 2015 R.I.D Toys?

I'd have preferred the repaint to have retained the black on his chest, along with the grey on his cannon, stomach and feet. He seems underpainted now, and the original release was barely painted as it was.

We had a few G1 and G2 repaints in Beast Wars. And a few Beast Wars toys repainted as Armada releases.

And before then we had Diaclone, Microman and some toys from some toylines being barely repainted for release as a single toyline in 1984.

    This is nothing new.

This repaint of Soundwave is the least shocking thing coming out of this line, nobody remembers even just the hundreds of Rippersnappers sold as Grimlocks of the past years!? or Combiner Wars?!
